Potty training failure Empty
PostSubject: Potty training failure    Potty training failure EmptyThu Feb 01, 2018 9:13 am

Guys, I'm justt..I feel like I'm just wasting energy I don't have. I got my 12 week old husky girl about a week ago. We got her Friday and then after that there was not one potty accident in the house. I was making such progress, but then Tuesday came. On Tuesdays, I have to go to school, my sibling has to go to work and my parents have to go to work so no one can take her out that day of the week. So we put shavings down that day and she used them, but now ever since then she just goes whenever in the house. I'm not crate training her btw. She was perfectly fine laying on my bed and waking me up/me waking her up to to potty and there was never a mistake in the house. Now I woke up at 3 am and there's 3 puddles of pee and a pile of poo ;-; I feel like I have to start all over again and that next Tuesday it's just gonna restart all my progress again anyway. Honestly I don't even see the point right now...
Edit: I know she's young guys I'm not expecting her to be a potty master lol. My point is that I think those Tuesdays that she is forced to potty in the house is going to ruin all my work every week.

At 12 weeks she is way too young to be expected to master potty training! Do a quick search on this forum and you will find a lot of great advice.

Sasha is 16-weeks; while she understands what going out for a potty means, it does not prevent her from spending hours out of doors, then come inside and squat.

Be patient, our American Bully still had accidents till around 7-mos.

I had a really great post for this last week, and I swear I hit send, but now I don't see it. Argh! Hopefully I can recreate it a bit from memory.

Expect setbacks. Plan for setbacks. Persevere.

First off, the only bad day is Tuesday? If that's the case, can someone, anyone help out? Do any of you get a lunch break where you can run home and let her out? Do you have a break in classes? Is someone that is working close enough to use a break to run home? Do you have a neighbor you could trust to take care of her twice a day? Maybe a relative? A retired grandparent or something?

Dogs do best on schedules, and I'm talking daily schedules. They don't understand days of the week. They can't read calendars, or if they can, they don't care, that's a human problem. You're going to find that your Tuesday change in schedule is going to throw a lot of things into wack. It will be an obstacle for basically all training. So having someone that can make that sacrifice for a couple months would really help out.

We have outside dogs, but when we have a young puppy, he spends most of his time inside. My wife and I both work, but we make sure that she takes a break in the morning and runs home to let them out, I take an afternoon break to do the same, and someone makes sure to get them out at lunch too. But we live in a small town and have flexible jobs, so it only takes 20 minutes to drive home, let the dog out, put him back inside, and drive back to work. If no one in the family has that ability, then you may need to recruit outside help.

Doggy daycare is another option. Take the dog to a doggy daycare for Tuesdays. It may still cause other training issues due to the break in schedule, but it will help with the potty issue. Plus it's good socialization. Just make sure she has all her shots first.

Not crate training may be an issue for you also. Dogs get bored if left alone. Even if you give them enough mental stimulation, they can get bored. Ever been bored even though you have a cell phone, a tv, streaming channels, a computer, a gigantic collection of unplayed steam games, game systems, a library of movies, shelves of unread books, unfinished projects, chores that need to be done, and family members or friends you could hang out? Well, imagine a dog with the same 3 or 4 toys and a kong full of peanut butter. It's a time bomb waiting to happen. Some day soon you're going to come home to a dog that ate his way into the sofa and can't get out. Or he'll chew his way through a wall. Or he'll eat the toes out of every left sock in the house.

The Tuesday accident issue may cause a total potty training setback, so make sure you are hyper-vigilant the rest of the time when you are home with her. Maybe even keep her attached by a leash to make sure you are with her at all times (even possibly at night). You'll notice special potty behavior when she starts sniffing around. And at night, her movements will hopefully pull on your arm to wake you up.

CLEAN like you've never cleaned before. Use enzyme cleaners. Use special pet cleaners. Clean any accident spots thoroughly. Dogs will often go to the bathroom where they have gone before, and this is often based on scent. So once they start going inside, you need to wage war.
