1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Sandbox for digging? Empty
PostSubject: Sandbox for digging?   Sandbox for digging? EmptyTue Jun 12, 2018 11:25 am

Last week we adopted Astro, a 9-month-old male. (Our very first Husky  I love you ) We have 2 girls (7 & 10). They and their friends are always running around the backyard so we decided to make a potty patch for Astro to avoid poo on the shoe incidents with the kids. (We're diligent about scooping but it's still happened twice!) My husband began digging out the potty area and it looked like so much fun Astro has started digging too - all over the yard!

We're talking about building Astro his very own digging sandbox but I'm curious if anyone has had success with it. (I looked at older posts about digging and saw that a digging area had been recommended a few times but never saw many follow-ups on the outcome.)

I can't talk from experience, but I'm going to do this for my dog in a year or two when I rebuild the deck. My new design plan has a spot for a doggie digging box.

I plan to dig a large hole, drop in a large plastic container (heavy duty plastic like a feed container or something). Nothing too big, 4 to 5 feet on a side. Then I plan to line the outside of it (on two sides as the other 2 sides will be against the deck) with large paving stones.

I plan to fill the thing with regular ole dirt. He'll be able to dig holes and what not, a lot of the dirt will be contained on the pavers so it can easily be pushed back in. I also plan to bury toys in it every time I refill it.

The reason for the container is that I don't want him burrowing under my deck, or out under the yard and causing problems.
