Suddenly not eating Empty
PostSubject: Suddenly not eating   Suddenly not eating EmptyTue Jan 23, 2018 12:39 pm

Our 7 month old boy went from inhaling food to having no interest. On Friday he was normal for breakfast and lunch then showed less interest at dinner, but eventually ate everything.

He stayed at the in-laws Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon while we were at a wedding and apparently ate all of his food, but did not gobble it at once.

Sunday night same story where he eventually ate. Monday I was on furlough and he didn't eat anything until around 4:30 where he ate everything in his bowl. We tried again when he was sniffing around at 8:30 and he ate.

Now Tuesday I'm home sick and he still hasn't eaten. He is drinking fine and acting normal. He happily eats treats and is currently working on a peanut butter filled kong.

We're probably 1/4 the way through a bag of Taste of the Wild Puppy Pacific which has not changed recently.

How concerned should I be and at what point should I take him to the vet?

Sad

Since he is eating, just not exactly when you are used to him eating, and otherwise not showing any real change in attitude or energy, I wouldn't be too concerned. Between the change of pace being at the in-laws for a night and then possibly sensing the stress of a furlough (at least it was short) and now you being sick, it may just have his internal clock thrown off. As long as he isn't sleepy, is drinking, and is still pooping and peeing normal then I wouldn't worry too much. If his poops get to looking funny, he stops drinking, or gets tired acting then I would make a trip into the vet for some routine blood work just to make sure something isn't off.

Sarah, Am I remembering correctly you asked when you can go from 3 times a day to feeding twice? It may be time then to feed twice a day and he may not need quite as much food as you were feeding. Let us know how many times a day and how much you are feeding, just sounds like between his change in routine and just becoming closer to an adult happened at the same time. Smile

He was still gobbling up his food until Friday so we were keeping up with the feeding 1 cup 3x per day. Today we eventually got him to eat by hand feeding then putting the rest in a different plastic bowl. He's been eating since we got him out of a stainless steel bowl.

He's drinking and his poops are normal in consistency, but not in volume.

May be time to cut back on food. I believe most adult huskies here who eat totw ate getting 2 cups a day, max.

Suddenly not eating Empty
PostSubject: Loss of appetite! Help!    Suddenly not eating EmptyWed Jun 13, 2018 8:11 pm

Hello, I adopted my 3 year old girl Lucy about 4 months ago from the shelter, and she’s so amazing! Recently, she’s been disinterested in the food we give her. We mix some Kirkland lamb kibble with some half cooked beef (her fav) twice a day and usually she gobbles it up. At first we though she was being picky about the kibble, so we just gave her beef to see if she would eat that but she’s not even eating that now. When dinner comes around she does eventually eat, but only if we hand feed her. We live in NorCal and there has been a crazy temperature spike here, it’s 80s at the lowest - 104 at its worst, and some research I’ve done suggests maybe she’s trying to regulate her metabolism, but we are sure to walk her early on the morning and in the evenings when it’s not crazy hot out, so it’s not from her being inactive. I know that was a lot of text, please help we’re first time husky parents and want to make sure our girl will be okay! Also, any tips on how to get her to eat? She still goes crazy for treats so I’m not sure what’s up.

Hot weather will put them off their food. You feed half cooked beef so, freeze that then, wiz it up in a food processor or blender to make a meat snow cone for her - she may like the ice cold food better. Mine eat raw regularly and, in the hot summer, they often get meat snow cones or, frozen chunks of meat because they eat that better than anything else when it's over 90 outside.
