Grendel has Cancer Empty
PostSubject: Grendel has Cancer   Grendel has Cancer EmptySat Sep 22, 2018 1:32 am

Grendel had a biopsy on Thursday to check a growth between the webbing of his toes, turned out to be cancerous and they removed as much as they could in an attempt to save the toe. Im back on Monday to receive the meds which he will be taking for the next six months or so, and dont know yet what he will be taking. (Stuff needs to be ordered in this country).

He is almost 4 and really, the only cancer I would have expected in this country is skin or nose, so Im upset although glad I noticed the lump. He obviously chewed off the bandage already but since he isnt chewing on the wound itself, I left it open last night, not sure if that was wise however Im closing it up this morning before he goes outside again.

I could do with some experienced advice about both wound care and cancer please!

Ouch, this is one of those "shoot, I don't really know what to say!" Seems like "the big 'C'" is cropping up way more than we'd expect with our guys lately.

Best wishes for a good prognosis ...

I like colloidal silver for wound care if you can get it. Nice antibiotic. Can just spray it on. I've heard good things about Keto diet for dogs with cancer so if you have facebook you might check out the keto for dogs FB group. Lot of research and folks who have gone through it to help get the diet right if you are interested in giving it a try. @simplify is dealing with a similar situation with her pup who is also pretty young to really be going through this. It's never easy. It's never cheap but there are many options out there now that there didn't used to be. One day at a time. Hopefully they got it all and you will be in the clear.

i always thought huskies did not have as many cancer issues as other breeds but my mind is changing on that. I am so sorry.
let us know what it test out as, im assuming it is being biopsy after the removal to check margins and what it is?
as for the foot. i love dogbooties.com or any form of dog bootie to keep on to prevent the chewing and dirt getting into the wound while it heals. since it is not wrapping the foot tight they do not pick on the bootie as much as a bandage. or like my dad he used old tub socks and duck-tape!

Thank you all, still waiting for the vet to call for the treatment but Im taking Grendel in for a check up in the morning. I keep the foor wrapped during the day when he is outside and open at night as he wasnt bothering with it. Its clean and healing nicely, I will post the results and treatment once Im in receipt of it. I only struggle to keep his foor dry during the day as both of them do love the pool, Ive gone through six bandages and tape already!
