Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Too small for his age.. Empty
PostSubject: Too small for his age..   Too small for his age.. EmptyWed Nov 21, 2018 4:25 pm

Got an Alaskan husky 10 days ago. Met his parents, both big dogs with long limbs.
His weight was 4.3kg at 12 weeks. Vet said he was healthy but underweight. Now (13 weeks) and he is 5.5kg. I dont feel like he is growing or filling out at all despite great appetite. A friend commented that he might not get bigger than 12 kg..

No experience with huskies. The Norwegian Elkhound I had grew steadily and fast till he was about 25kg.

What do you guys think?

Other than seeing some *big* ears he's going to have to grown into, I see nothing unusual.

Bear in mind a few different things, Huskies are a MEDIUM sized breed so one that's over, let's say, 25kg is going to be an unusually big Husky. You're trying to judge from way too little information - some dogs start off small and stay small, some start off small and just seem to continue growing - he should grow up till about a year old and then start to fill out. As a young adult and puppy, he's much more apt to look like a beanstalk than otherwise - it's just the general nature of the breed.

Also, *in general* vets don't know that a Husky is supposed to be sveldt not husky. Many will look at a healthy working Husky and swear that they're underweight - when they're not.

Welcome to the forum and say "Hi!" to that pretty young thing.
