A couple questions about my dude Empty
PostSubject: A couple questions about my dude   A couple questions about my dude EmptyThu Feb 21, 2019 2:33 am

I've had this guy for about a year now. Love him to death, best bud. But I can't tell if hes full husky. I got him from a really nice backyard breeder and the guy swears he full husky and I've seen both parents that are without a doubt full husky. I've asked my vet for her thoughts (not much help tbh) so I thought I'd ask some experienced professionals. I asked her if his ears even looked like they were supposed to go up and she said that's what it looked like and they might not have due to lack of calcium and vitamins. I've gotten a DNA test that said hes 88% husky and 12% unknown but I was told not to trust those. I just need some honesty and input.A couple questions about my dude 20190212

I would say a rogue dog had a tryst when the breeder wasn't looking. Dogs can have a litter with more than one father. Cute pup though.

Which DNA test? Embark is quite reliable.

I used wisdom panel. After a bit of pondering last night I looked at his mother and she does look a bit off. His dad is no doubt 100% though. His mom is a little skinnier then usual with a shorter coat and it's not a great picture but looks like half droop ears. I saw her in person but I was so excited to get him I can barely remember what she looked like.

Wisdom is pretty accurate. I wouldn't snub what it says. I've used both wisdom and embark and trust either well enough. If a mix is far enough out they won't be able to tell exactly what the other breed is but they should have said what type of dog, such as hunting dog like lab or golden was the possible combo. Definitely looks like a mix. Aside from the color he has a few traits similar to one of my dogs that has lab and a host of other things in him aside from just husky.

I'm not sure if I read it wrong or what but I went back at it after digging up my account information and now its saying hes 12.5% brittany and I didnt know I could look at a family tree so I'm guessing it was his dad's side was 100% and one of his moms parents was a brittany so I guess that settles that if you say it's a trusted test. More input is still appreciated though. I'll probably ask about training but under that topic of course. I'm still open to more comments though.A couple questions about my dude 20190213

My boy came back with about the same amount cocker spaniel (he's also husky, Malamute, GSD, and Lab). At 12.5% range you are looking a couple generations down the line from where a parent was 50/50 husky/spaniel. The nice thing with embark is that they will give you a little family tree that will show you where the breeds may have come in down the line. Not always accurate as to which side the breed came in but they are decent at spotting how removed it is. Not sure if this is a feature Wisdom will add with time, but they might. The other nice thing is as they get better technology and new toys to play with they will update your stuff.

Yeah I've been playing around with it. It's nice to get that all cleared up. It's been an ongoing debate for the past year ive had him whether he was pure or not. Couldn't really tell when he was a puppy. Planned on breeding him but with that little bit of brittany its unlikely, compared to all these nice looking full breeds chances are very low. Its whatever though

It's amazing to me how much the ears can change the appearance! Ears down he reminds me of a Lab, ears up I see Husky. Not full blooded Husky but enough that I see Husky. Very cute dog, have fun with him!
