PostSubject: My red husky just arrived to its new home   My red husky just arrived to its new home EmptySun Nov 14, 2021 11:50 pm

Hello. My name is Diego and my new red husky just arrived two days ago and im pretty excited. Im new to these type of dog breed and is my first large breed dog. Ive alrewdy read bumch of articles and videos about how to take proper care of it and training. However Im a little concerned about Rocky sometimes hiding under furniture (beds, tables). Is this normal behavior as he is new to my home and environment? He comes out and plays, eats, and to go pee and poop but then he goes to his favorite sporlt under a table and under the bed. Is this normal behavior. Thanks to everyone and im happy to be in this community!

Yep, normal. My girl has her den under the coffee table in the living room. As many of us crate train rather than allowing our dogs to run loose in the house during times we are gone their crates eventually become their spot for many. They like having a "safe space" or a chill space.

I'd have to agree it's pretty much normal.
With Avalanche - an Alaskan Husky - it's not but then he's got full run of the house when I'm home and is apt to be laying in the sun.
Sky - a Siberian - is much more apt to be lounging in her crate when she's not aggravating Avalanche.  It's her, as @TwisterII mentions, "safe place" and I'll seldom disturb her when she's there.

In your case, I'd say it's a combination of new surroundings and their tendency to want a safe place. You don't mention whether he's doing this when he's around you (under the coffee table when you're in the room) or in another part of the house (under your bed when you're in the living room). In the former I wouldn't be concerned at all, he's just finding a place that's comfortable and out of the way; in the latter I'd wonder why he's excluding himself from family activities since they tend to be social dogs who DO want to be with "their people."

Welcome to the group and how about a pic or three of this new guy. You don't mention whether it's a pup (the only one that I could picture fitting under most beds) or a full grown dog.

Thanks for the replies guys. Rocky is a two month old puppy. Here I have attached some of his pics. Regarding your question he is doing both, getting under the bed or furniture when we are in the living room and also when we are near him in the room.

Cute puppy!  I like the last picture of the pup with his head on his bed ... "I don't know what this but it makes a good pillow!"

... and you're not going to have to worry about him getting under that dresser for too long!  Just look forward to the day he gets under it and can't figure out how to get out! << laughing >>

Now more seriously ... it's unusual for a puppy to head to another room and hide when his people are around.  I'll carefully suggest that something is scaring him.  Have you tripped over him so that he might be concerned?  (( My Alaskan stretches across my living floor and has gotten tripped over and stepped on more than once ... but he doesn't care. ))  Since he's the same color as your rug in that last picture I can see that happening!

Diego, I think what most of us missed is that you only got him a couple of days ago. No matter what, he's going to be nervous - because he's away from the pack he "grew up" with, his mother and siblings. If he's still hiding in a week, I'd bet it's for play.
