| huh, what do you mean it's not summer?
I went looking because I knew we had a time change thread here somewhere but I can't find it now ... unless I'm mis-remembering. Most of us here in the US just did our semi-annual lunacy of changing the time by an hour because the farmers like it better when the sun stays up later in the day during the summer ( from friends / relatives who farm I'm not so sure that's true )
And on the first day of Standard time I've had to change my watch ( a Casio with a 10 year battery and 'memo pad' for phone numbers ) get rid of a rat that found one of my glue traps (that kept me awake half the night 'cause the dogs got all excited) a friend wanted me to take a run to Alpine with him where he was going to pick up a panel saw (which didn't happen) and trying to get a decent nap today (which also didn't happen)
I hate time change cause the dogs don't know what's happening when their chow comes an hour early or late or daddy goes to bed earlier / later depending and my body sympathizes with the dogs.
So, how do you and yours handle the time change .... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Yep. Ami did not note the time change. I was dozing and i hear Woo woo woo repeat ad infinitum until i them hear the food can opening. Checked my phone - just 4PM. The time change was a real conundrum when i work in the middle of the night, trying to figure out if i could take another Norco, took the previous one on EDT, now was standard time, so how many hours since last pill?!!? I'm cutting back now that I'm not in such profound pain, but damn, all that arithmetic in the wee hours of the morn, with a groggy brain and clocks that don't agree... Made my head spin |

| I would prefer to just stay in daylight savings time and stop moving. I prefer my light on the far end of the day rather than having sunrise at 4am, but frankly our days are so short during the winter that we don't really see light regardless of what time we are on unless we work off kilter hours. Everyone here always goes on about the kids getting on the bus in the dark if we just choose to stay on daylight savings time. It doesn't matter, they are either going to get on in the dark or off in the dark. Our routes are long here. Someone gotta deal with the dark.
It always makes kenzi's meds interesting to deal with. I'm supposed to dose every 12 hours and I have about an hour give or take off that so i usually have to dose at the 11.5 hour mark the night before so when we fall back I'm still in that 1 hour give zone. it's a pain. Pretty sure if a presidential candidate said their first act in would be to stop time change at the federal level they would win in a land slide. _________________ |

| @Amymeme I don't have that excuse for confusion around time change. The friend I went to Alpine with yesterday called me on Saturday evening and said he'd see me about 10. I had to call him back and ask if he meant 10:CST or 10:DST? Not a lot of help, but it was a lot of fun!! @Twisterii I personally don't care which but I do wish that it would stay one or the other! Okay, let's say we leave it at DST. The pups are pretty good about eating when it gets put down but they were wondering when it got on toward 7:30 ( I slipped, dinner is normally about 6:PM ) then evening treat time came early at 8:PM (normally at 9:PM) but with time change I wasn't sure when they were getting what and I try not to push a change ... oh, woe is me, I'se so confused!!! I'll leave it to you to decide which time reference above is CST or CDT ... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Well i like it staying bright later and sunrise being later. That being said we get like 5ish hours of daylight during the dead of winter. Dogs wanted dinner at 130 usually they eat at 230 but then the next morning they were acting like i starved them.
Colorado voted to end time change 3 years ago and it died in the senate.
Work was fun. Between the time change and the snow it was dead. But its hunting tourist season now. Anyone hunt here or did at some point? The hunters coming in STINK. Now if i can smell them feom 30 ft away how do they expect to find a deer or elk? It will smell them long before they even see it. My family used the soap and then wipes that eliminate your scent so i dont get it. |

| During June we get about 14 hours of sunlight with another hour or so of twilight (split between morning / evening) so I'm happy with that. During the winter we get about 10 hours of sunshine which really sucks.
Well, if someone is hunting tourist's and leave one out for a day or two, of course they're gonna stink!!
I'll pass on the obvious comments ... worse than talking about the weather, I hate politics!

| Darwinism seems to be proving itself today. Ran kids home. Roads were basically plowed where they left 2 inches of snow on the road and you couldnt see what was a lane the shoulder the middle. Just the t posts with reflectors for the plows. You Have people driving way to slow, some way too fast and then subaru people that are driving like the road is dry. The roads look like a free for all (like in Asian movies) and in 4 miles passed 18 cars in ditch next to the road. |

| They started testing the snow routes here but obviously no snow to deal with yet.
So we went in Monday for an ultrasound at maternal fetal medicine so we could do a consultation with one of their doctors about her size being on the small side. Lucky me had my blood pressure go up while doing all that and landed admitted to L&D for a 24-hour monitor for hypertension and pre-eclampsia. Like sitting in a hospital room on a piece of plywood they call a bed is going to help my BP go down. Got through it. BP goes down at night then creeps back up during the day but I didn't have any crazy pre-eclampsia level readings except for one where the doctor was dumb enough to come in and talk about early induction then take a BP reading. Like how could you seriously think someone is going to have a good BP reading after that. I'm almost 34 weeks roughly and they wanted to give a low dose steroid for her lungs in case the BP wouldn't come down. I had a reaction to that I've been fighting for a couple days now. They wanted to keep me another day because my BP was still higher than they like but frankly it was only going to get worse the longer I was there, so I came home Tuesday night. I have a BP cuff at the house. Morning reads are fine. Evening reads are elevated but not terrible. I'm crazy tired from being in the hospital. Kiddo didn't do much moving at all wednesday. She hates the monitors and moves like crazy and totally wore herself out in there, which was further reason I needed to just get home before they caused me to have to have a crazy early induction. Went into my normal clinic yesterday for a non-stress test on baby. Had a bit of an elevated BP read during that but it came down with some sitting around. She's back to her active self and vitals are all good. Pretty sure I'm fighting a cold which may explain my initial BP reads. If that's the case then once I get through it and get past the side effects of the stupid steroid shot they thought I needed then the BP will probably level out over the next week. Regardless, I'm now on twice a week monitoring. I was already upgraded to weekly ultrasounds due to her size. I'm around 40 miles one-way from my clinic so I can just see the mileage on my truck blistering higher as the weeks go on. _________________ |

| Ugh. Not a pleasant experience, Jenn. While the steroid shot helps the baby's lungs mature faster, it can also, not always, raise BP. Wishing you the best from here on. Hugs. Edit: also, beets and beet greens are known for reducing BP, maybe have a serving daily. But not if you hate them and they make you vomit |

| Wasssap, y'all! Oh man, it was big deal...I used to prepare early for time changes with Mylo. Usually, I would always try to do a smooth transition by starting about a week early going on time reduction/added increments for his food and pill. |

| how many folks does it take to get blood out of me? Apparently more than one phlebologist, two ER nurses, and a NICU doctor. 8 tries. Could hit a vein but couldn't get it to produce enough to run labs even with attempting to syringe it out of me. But I guess now they have something else to scratch their heads over that isn't my BP. BP is still up with home monitoring but not terribly so. Not triggering the go-to-hospital-now vibes but triggering the meds conversation. Back at it Thursday for another non-stress test.
To add insult to injury kenzi I'm pretty sure is going through a silent heat so her blood sugar numbers have been through the roof all of a sudden and don't really respond to ups in insulin doses. Just have to ride the wave when she's in a heat but she is so whiney. A combination of not feeling well because her sugars are high but she has always been crazy whiney during a heat even before being diabetic. _________________ |

| Well i spent the entire day at the autoshop. Needed tie rods like 6 weeks ago and finally did them and the front brakes. Did not plan on rotors needing to be resurfaced. Made it home at 6 and spider was being a brat and made me puke.
30 mins after getting home she decided to pull one of those rescue brand fly traps. By the time i realized what she was doing and went and grabbed her, she was rolling in it. So i get her in and then she jumps in the bed. One of the few times i gave her a bath with actual shampoo. Only got most of her then rubbed her down with deodorizer/detangler spray. She smells better but i think needs a better bath tomorrow. It might even go above freezing tomorrow. But she smelled so bad i puked in the process of bathing her and that wet dog is a good smell compared to dead rotting flies and whatever is in the trap. |

| Jenn - so sorry you had to go through all those needle sticks. I hate needle sticks. Hate, hate, hate. We're you dehydrated at all? Only thing I can think of.
And Emily? Stinky need a bath dogs at night is not one of life's most rewarding experiences. Sorry you had to puke - puking right up there with needle sticks in my book.
Recovery is ongoing. Pain control is less than adequate. Walking around the house without assistance now. Outside, I've worked up to 3/10 mile with walker. Walker mostly because we have gravel driveway and oil and stone road, both with uneven surfaces. I have to admit through, of there's any mud, i pick up the walker and carry it, don't want the mud in the house. My biggest complaint, pain wise, is not my knee but my butt/hip area. I so hope this isn't a leg length discrepancy issue. I'm most unhappy with the opioid prescription guidelines these days. Very stingy and I'm rationing what i have for when the pain might be worst. Consequently, there are times when I'm in tears and squirming every which way trying to get comfortable. But that can backfire - last night was bad so first i took a Norco but clearly i waited to long. Then took a half a gummy hoping to sleep. BP did not like that - i was woozy, BP on first try was 88/50. Figured that was anomaly so do it again - 86/49. Hubby had me drink water and eat something salty. And spotted me whenever i was on my feet. PT today. Not really happy with PT, feel like i could really do this on my own. Though, to be honest, not letting anyone touch me after that disastrous experience at first session. That is just not gonna happen again.
Now i have to figure out how to dig 3 canna bulbs from the dirt - finally had enough cold weather to pull them... |

| @Twisterii Bloodwork is something I put up with, when I was in service I gave blood every time they asked for a donation ... I had a 1 gallon pin and another two gallon pin ... and they had a lot of my blood. When I was in SF waiting to ship back to the Pacific they said that anyone who wasn't on the list and gave blood could have the day to wander town ... oh, here, here!! The young (and I was only like 20?) vampire tried to hit a vein - before I told her they roll - so she steadied the vein and tried again - nope. I offered the other arm and she tried again, nope! Hey, Maggie!!! (or somesuch) the lead nurse on the shift took two tries to hit a vein but I got a chance to wander SF AFTER I had a snack, man was I ever woozy. I'm not concerned with needles, I do give the person of the other end a critique when they get done. It may be "Damn, you're good!" or "Didn't get enough grapefruit training?" @lostmaniac Took my Jeep in a while back for a brake job on the rear end (drums) should have been a couple hundred down here ($50 most anywhere else) He got part way into it and told me I needed new drums - these couldn't be turned again (okay ..?..?) (( memory says that these were new with the last brake job but I wanted to get the Jeep back )) Then he ran into a seal that needed replacing - I was losing brake fluid? he asks ... one time in the last 10 years. Added a dab from time to time but definitely nothing serious. Guess what mechanic won't be getting my Jeep again. It would sure be nice if we had one decent mechanic down here. Oh, that brake job cost me $1200 and two weeks .... @Amymeme Gal, I'm sorry you're hurting so much. While I can't relate to the pain (we've been in this discussion before) I can relate to the discomfort. I set on a stool with my keyboard / monitor on a counter and there are times where I set on something (that isn't there) and my tush is sore for a few hours!! I know that if we get a front go through the wrist I broke many years ago will flare up but I haven't been able to put anything to why the touchas hurts some times and not others. Canna lillies, you get a shovel and have hubby support one side while you use the other foot to dig ... naw, shoot, just give Wayne the shovel! Speaking about shooting, someone down here is gonna get shot. We've got free carry and it seems as if about half the folks are open carrying (the women probly have theirs in the war bag) It wasn't too bad before the election but now it seems to be the wide open 'old west.' ETA: Looking back at one of @Lostmaniac's posts about the weather up there and 'Subaru drivers' (never heard of that but I can imagine) If I can get to someplace safe when it rains, I just stand out of the way and laugh my 'patootie' off. It's even more fun when there's oh, say 1/2 inch of snow ... Texans, as Lostmaniac has commented before, don't know how to drive when it's dry and flat, add in any precipitation or maybe a hill or two and they're completely out of it ... they'd do better trying to take the car to Points east off Galveston! (at least that's generally flat!) |

| Welp. Yesterday afternoon, i thought i was doing quite well, and did my best to ace PT. Then went into Walmart with hubby to pick up a few things.
Bad. Bad bad bad mistake. I took a Norco before PT. Welp last night, knee, lower and upper leg swollen like a MFr.
This morning. Could barely walk, though of going back to the walker.
Send a bit better this afternoon but I've been really sedentary. |

| Without saying something is about to happen people here are getting weird. Its open carry and to some extent it IS the wild west here. Has was will be but people are stockpiling. Ammo guns food propane and solar panels mostly. The valley gets locked out of the rest of the state in winter somewhat regularly. Everyone keeps talking about how the valley wont change and the valley will support the valley. Do people get shot here? Infrequently, but we have a crazy number of disappearances and some high profile cases here.
What is blowing up is we have 700 full time residents in town and 5 cops. And now that we have 4 legally here Venezuelan families, they are patrolling like crazy.
@amy feel better i ssaw jerry go through what you are and it wasnt fun. |
