I just want opinions of what I need to make a choice. Her last checkup was very good, but her arthritis is getting worst. She remains lying down and having incontinence and pooing on herself because she can’t get up. Even sleeping she does everything. I wake up and clean her up clean the area but she is Just having problems moving. She is almost 14 yrs. My Buddy was helped past the rainbow at 14 1/2 yrs las 2019.
I want it to be a natural crossing not me making the decision but it’s getting hard watching her like this.

Hi, it's good to see you back; it's not so good for the reason ...

Few of our pets are going to die of 'natural causes' they don't have the natural predators that would cull them nor are most going to be killed by cars, etc. so, in the long run we end up having to - as you phrased - gently help them along.

I had one girl, a real pain for me, who I had put to sleep a couple of years back because she just couldn't get around ... oh, hobble around a bit but standing up to take a dump was almost impossible. And now I have two who are 14 (one plus a bit and one minus a bit) who spend most of the day sleeping or staring out the windows. I'll let them go on as longs as they can and then gently ease them on their way ... and cry myself to sleep for the next several nights.

(( I moved this to it's own thread. I looked at yours and didn't find a good one to tack it on to. ))

So sorry you are having to go through this but you are definitely not alone. I've got 2 right now (12 and nearly 16) whom I battle daily with incontinence and movement struggles, though not to the point they are just laying in it.

Is she currently on anything to help with the arthritis? If she isn't currently on anything then you can see if something over-the-counter like Dasuquin will help. If she's already on an over-the-counter mobility supplement then a vet could prescribe something stronger such as prednisone to assist in getting inflammation in the joint down and see if that helps anything. I wouldn't opt to try to treat with a pain med like Tramadol. It mostly makes them sleepy and attempts to mask the issue which isn't helpful.

Frankly, once they are to the point that they are unable to get up on their own and are just laying in their own bodily functions it's in most cases more humane to help them along. They are disconnected from their bodies and the act of spending time in their own waste will invite infection and other health issues that could pose more distress to them. It's definitely not an easy call to make when everything else comes back fine but their structure is just failing them.

Thanks @twisterII you said what I wanted to but a lot better. At 14ish my two are doing surprisingly well but I really dread the day ....
