Hybrid kibble and raw? Empty
PostSubject: Hybrid kibble and raw?   Hybrid kibble and raw? EmptyTue Dec 03, 2024 6:55 pm

Any worries not to stick with a mix of kibble and raw? We camp and road trip a lot and not sure how I could maintain a full raw diet on the road. Tried out some BARF based lamb de-thawed nuggets today with half his normal kibble and he was all over it!

As long as you test his stomach for the mix there's nothing to worry about. I used to do it all the time with mine and never had an issue. I would feed raw meat at home and then on trips I would swap to freeze dried raw or a mix of freeze dried and kibble to keep it simple.

I have done the whole traveling with full raw meat before in a cooler and it was super unpleasant. I packaged everything by meal and froze it in the deep freeze then loaded the frozen meals into a cooler and pack it deep with ice. it worked alright for a couple days depending on where we were going but a longer trip it just wasn't feasible. Because my old one is diabetic and food changes mess with her glucose numbers I opted to go this route on our last big trip which was a couple weeks in Arizona and Utah. Never again. There wasn't enough Ice in the world and no cooler strong enough to properly hold meals that long. We had to get a cabin with a full size fridge/freezer about halfway through so i could refreeze the meals for the second half of the trip or they weren't going to make it. If I could have consistently gotten dry ice it might would have been different, but it's not consistently found and a bear the deal with.

I'm laughing. I would say that might be the understatement of the year!!! Especially traveling in the South West🤮

Thanks. I gotta say, after just a few meals mixing in these raw nuggets from Primal, this 7.5 y.o. is acting like a puppy again. He's always been so "meh" with the kibble.

I'll see if it continues but I am encouraged to pursue more of a raw component in his diet!

What a miracle it would be if it helps with the epilepsy.
