My mom and I do some gardening and yard work and we're getting ready to plant some new flowers and shrubs, with the new puppies what should we stay clear of that could be dangerous to them?

or any flowers that are safe if the dogs eat them...Aurora eats everything! (except her dog food)

Does Aurora have a history of eating plants? There are a lot of plants that can be toxic to dogs if ingested but most dogs don't typically eat plants, save for the occasional plant and grass. I have some plants in my yard that are toxic to dogs if ingested including azaleas, lily of the valley, hibiscus, hosta, and a tomato plant. We also visit our second vacation home regularly which has lots of rhododendron (potentially poisonous if ingested) and none of our dogs or visiting families' dogs have ever eaten any of the plants and none have ever gotten sick.

Here's a list of plants that can be toxic to pets:

"Toxic" can range from an upset tummy to death. Having had a cat die from eating part of a flower arrangement, I wouldn't risk having it in the house.

That being said, I don't know plants. I'm not sure what variety of "ficus" the ones you mention are. ASPCA does list the following 3 plants as toxic, and they do have the word "ficus" in their scientific name.

1. Weeping Fig
2. Fig
3. Indian Rubber Plant

I did also find ficus pumila on this toxic list. Not sure about ficus repens. Maybe someone who knows more about plants than me can help.
