Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Toy Guarding Empty
PostSubject: Toy Guarding   Toy Guarding EmptyFri Sep 12, 2014 12:12 pm

So Casper has a really bad case of guarding his toys, but only towards other dogs. Any human can come by and take the toy but the moment another dog even thinks about touching a toy that's nowhere near him he loses his shit and runs towards the dog barking and growling and will even try to attack the other dog (unless its bigger than him).
He did this in his puppy class to the point where he was not allowed to play in the play sessions and the teacher just said to keep him away from dogs while there are toys around (which I think is really stupid advice).
Any advice would be appreciated

The best thing you can do, don't give him, or let the others have toys when they play together. Toy guarding is a serious issue, there are a few ways to stop it. However I advise you to seek a professional behavioural specialist. That way they can help you see signs and warnings, learn to correct them.

As I said, until you seek help from someone in real life, don't let him play with toys if other dogs are around.

I can't let Okami have antlers/bones around other dogs... she guards them. She also water guards, so at the dog park I have to play water goalie while she drinks... it is ridiculous, I know. It keeps her and everybody else safe though. She has never acted badly, she just growls, which is my warning sign to correct/take away.
