Unusual Heat Empty
PostSubject: Unusual Heat   Unusual Heat EmptyThu Feb 09, 2012 6:14 pm

My Year old husky, has had several unusual heats, first started around six months of a age. they come off and on.
i am concerned because there is no telling when she will go into heat. since she was about six months when the first heat cycle came on she has had several more! I would like to breed her at least once, but im afraid there might be something wrong with her?
any advice what could be going on??

ummmm why do you want to breed her? will you have her eyes and hips checked, is she AKC? have you shown her at all?

i would just spay her and then you don't have to worry about anything, no sense in risking her health.

Are there intact males around? Or other females in heat? I know sometimes that can bring them on.

I would be wary if she's having so many heats back to back... Maybe some sort of hormonal imbalance?

The thinking that it's beneficial to let them have a litter before spaying them is really just a myth and provides no benefit to the female other than the added complications of what can happen during mating, pregnancy, and birth.

If breeding is something you really want to do, educate yourself on the responsible steps that should be taken to ensure the health and safety of your female as well as her potential puppies. First place to start is getting her eyes and hips tested and scored as well as dive into her pedigree.

If she's having that many, I'd probably just get her spayed. My younger one had three heats two months apart, but I think it was because my other female wasn't fixed either. She first went into heat at 5 months old when my older one was in heat, then two months later went into heat again which I think was going to be her normal time to go into heat. She then went into heat again about 2 or 3 months later when my older female went into heat again. I've since then gotten my older one fixed and my younger one's heats have stopped/gone back to normal. So I assume she was just trying to get on my older one's heat cycle since it's stopped as soon as I got the older one spayed.

You've been breeding siberians for 10yrs? Do you show them? Is this female from one of your breedings? Do you know if there is a history of frequent heats in the line?
