2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

I *think* I found one of these tonight. On me. (EWWWWWWW!!!!!!!) We're going to check the dogs over tonight, but does anyone have experience with these? A quick google says that we have to bomb the house, spray the yard, and dip the dogs, all of which need to be done by a "professional"

We use an application of chinch bug yard stuff once a year to keep brown ticks (and fleas) out of the yard...when we put it down we don't let the dogs in the back yard for about a week though..I hate putting stuff on the yard but that's basically the only stuff we use and I haven't seen a tick since.

Bomb and spray and dip just for one tick!?!

Every dog, no matter how vigilant the owner is, gets a tick now and again (and so will their humans). There are more ticks this year in most areas but we just keep Frontline on the animals. I know there are others who do well with more natural remedies as well. Just because you found one does not mean that you have an infestation.

I second this. If you have only found one, I'd just pull it off (make sure you pull from as close to the skin as possible, otherwise you'll just rip it's body off from it's head and the head will stay buried in the dog's skin, which could cause an infection) and then watch the area and your dog for signs of illness. Also, watch out for other ticks. If your dog keeps bringing in ticks and is up to date on flea and tick medication, THEN I would consider doing all that other stuff and also maybe trying a different flea and tick medication.

OK. Good. It was just crawling around on top of my hair, not attached or anything. Kind of freaked me out. Here's a pic (compared to a poorly sharpened pencil for comparison) just to be sure of what it is. Sorry about the crappy quality. Definately going to put the Frontline on the top of the to-do list.

Brewer's has only had one on him this season so far, and we let him go everywhere he pleases (woods, wetlands, creekbeds, prairies, etc). We have been using a combination of essential oils backed highly by Val...

I've had two, but I was asking for it (doing deer management stuff in northern MN).

We live in the woods and this time a year I usually find a tick a day it seems- both my dogs are on frontline and haven't had any ticks attached to them and usually they get off the dogs and crawl on to me. (Wish there was frontline for humans Smile)

I don't see any need to bomb a house over seeing a tick - just make sure your dog is treated with frontline and you will most likely start finding dead ticks

Haha - I start itching from May to September and sadly - most of the time it is warranted! Smile
