Bob's Medical Update Empty
PostSubject: Bob's Medical Update   Bob's Medical Update EmptyMon Jul 16, 2012 9:27 pm

Just wanted to update everyone on Bob. Although he had to have a second operation because of bone spurs I think he is doing so much better now. I want to be patient with him as he is trying to use that leg more and more. The Vet is impatient and wants me to put a cap under the good leg and force him to use that leg more. I spoke to the vet tech alone and asked her what she thought she said he was in a lot of pain I could get the sense that she did not want to do it. But in showing me with a larger tech what had to be done they muzzled bob turned him over and was putting the cap on with a ace bandage bob was crying and I knew I had to put my foot down. So I told them no as I am alone at night and my other works days there is no way I was or could put it on. I spoke with the Therapist and she agreed she said sometimes it take a while for them to fully use the leg and she felt he is getting better. I have bought a children pool for Bob to play in as he loves the water and set up some barriers for him to walk over as he will be lifting that leg. The barrier is working a little the pool will be put together this weekend. I love this dog so much and do not want to cause him any more pain. He deserves better. I am probably being over protective but if it take 6 more months then so be it. When he runs he runs with all four. Time is what I need I feel.

Wanted to post some video one where he is walking and the other where he is at therapy now swimming the full length of the pool Oh wanted to point out in the first video the person on the far right that comes into the video with white hair is Tom Nowicki an actor that works with dogs. He has been on many films right now Necessary Roughess as a lawyer, blindside, Titan, On tree hill, etc. Wonderful person.

If you ever need another pool for therapy, I'm watching my parent's house in Deltona over the summer. They have a big pool. And after we can go grab some sushi or whatever! Wink

Thank you all for the encouragement. I am going to step up the training. His leg is a full 3 inches shorter than the other where it was about 2 before the operation. Sara thanks for the offer I work in Sanford so I know kinda where Deltona is. I am going to pass for now as I have so many ideas for him. I can see the muscle building up in the leg. Thank you thank you

is that because of how tight the muscles are and will it get longer with all the work you are doing?

we have a husky that comes to our meets whos front paw is i think 1" shorter, he is a champ and you can only really tell when he is running.

No when bob was hit by a car it pushed his leg bone up and the ball that hooks them both was pushed downward. If you were to feel his back you could feel the bone protruding up from the hip. When they did the FHO I knew one leg was going to be shorter (according to what I read) but did not think it would be that short. I think because of the situation unlike when they usually do these operations its aligned with the hip and that causes a little shortness but Bobs was a different case. He was like that for 6 months until I got him.
