PostSubject: Salmon Oil / Coconut oil supplements?   Salmon Oil / Coconut oil supplements? EmptySat Sep 01, 2012 11:39 am

My girls are on the TOTW High Prairie canine formula. I've read a lot here about people adding salmon oil or coconut oil to their dogs food for health and coat reasons. A while back I read a thread about these, but I can't find it now. What would be the best type and brand to buy? They are both 8 years old, and Zoe is a super wooly.

I supplement coconut oil because I consider it to be a healthier and safer option. For coconut oil, brand is not important, however it should be virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil. The coconut oil for people is fine and is usually cheaper than the stuff marketed for pets.

This is the coconut oil I use I give to my pups about 2-3 times a weeks.

I give mine this salmon oil about 3 times a week.

I also give mine a raw egg once a week.

I a package of sardines packed in either water or soy oil once a week.

Do you do this year round or just in the winter months? Would you recommend doing both or one or the other?

I've not used coconut oil on my dogs, but may eventually add it in. I know it's extremely good for people, so it has to be beneficial for dog's as well.

I do however also use the Grizzly Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil. My dog's love it!

This link tell's the benefit's of using Salmon Oil.

Addition to the oil, I too give raw egg's once or twice a week (shell and all).

I recently started adding NuPro Gold into their diet. It's a powder that you add water to and it makes a gravy and the dog's go crazy over it. I've had great success with this stuff.

I use it year round for my dogs. Some people use both, some use one or the other. Ultimately it is up to you and what you consider best for your pets. I prefer coconut oil exclusively for my pack personally.

Start off in very small amounts with coconut oil. Unfortunately, Ginger and Storm goes soft with coconut oil Sad
