Have you used either brand and did your pup run by the recommended feeding guidelines? How long did it take you to go through a bag?
Here's my situation, I have spoken to a vet and we think Jasper may have a zinc deficiency so she wants me to get him off of chicken, grain and potato if possible. She said to go with Nature's Domain if I need to but its not her first choice.
They are both on American Natural Premium Original right now and eating three cups a day per dog, more then either of their weight range recommends but any less and they loose weight they can't afford to loose. We go through a 40# bag in a month give or take a few days if they choose not to eat a meal. This food does contain oats and his skin issue popped up after an influx of oats in his diet via oat based treats and his food. So I am trying to get him off oats.
I have had Nutrisca recommended to me and will be trying to give the dogs some samples of that in the next week. I have been giving the two some samples I got from Zignature and not only does Jasper love it so far but just that little bit daily in with his regular food has helped to put a little meat on his bones. Bella tried a bit of Merrick's grain free Buffalo and sweet potato and its the first food she scarfed right up and didn't act like I was trying to poison her by getting her to try something different. Jasper shouldn't have the Merrick because of the chicken in it.
My only issue is the weight of the bags and the price right now. Going through the amount that I have been I am leary of switching to smaller bags and I need a bag to last me a month right now. I am loosing the little job I have had so will be very tight on funds. I also would prefer to not have them on different foods but if need be I'll do it. But I also want them healthy and I am seeing that the food I have been feeding while not necessarily bad for them just doesn't seem to be cutting it for these two. They are both very skinny their hips are very easily felt and rib while not visible are felt easily, the only time we did not feel them this much was when they were on Diamond extreme athlete a food I don't want to switch back to because of their recalls and Bella terrible gas while on it. Any other suggestions? Should I just try going to the Natures Domain? At least Jas would be off the oats then. This is frustrating. Sorry if anything is disjointed I'm still rambling to myself about this.

I feed Merrick buffalo and sweet potato and duck and sweet potato. My two eat about 1 to 1 1/2 cups A Day.. I give them treats during the day. They maintain their weight and gain if I am not careful..

Kerian is over 3 years we are not sure she is a rescue. weight 52 lbs now personality is a bit heavy.

Blaze is 3 years and 1 1/2 months old he weight 59 - 60 lbs maybe 5 lbs over weight.

The Merrick Buffalo and Sweet potato does have chicken. I believe the Duck and Sweet potato does not.

good luck in finding a good balance for them.
