2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Nikko doesn't jump on everything but he jumps and stands on his back feet, front paws on the object. All the time. He knows its wrong. If I say off he gets off. If I get up and start walking towards him he gets off. How can I make him stop? He's getting better with people, just not with the couches, tables...so on and so forth.

How are you correcting Nikko currently when he does it?

You can try time outs, Verbal reprimands, redirection to another location or position.

We dealt with furniture jumping as with anything else. When it happened we made them get off by themselves with verbal commands. Sometimes we would request a sit or lay down else where in the room.

On the rare occasion a timeout would be used when we requested an off and they didn't do it.

They both "ask" politely in their own way to come up now. Tika puts her head on the seat and stares at one of us until we say OK and point. Ripley wags her tail and looks at us out of the side of her big fat face until we pull her up.

There has to be some consequence to jumping up for them to understand it was wrong. Just walking forward or pushing them down or even saying off doesn't teach them anything other than "When I do this he gets up and touches me!!!! This could be a game!!!!"

In the end if Nikko is listening to you when you say off he is half way there and is learning... It might just be some Puppy play still in him that is making / enjoying this game.

That makes sense. I'll have to start giving him more timeouts and see if that helps. I usually just put him in a dark bathroom where he really doesn't have anything to play with, that's the only spot I have. Is that a good timeout spot?
