PostSubject: Is it possible my husky is a mixbreed?   Is it possible my husky is a mixbreed? EmptyMon Jan 21, 2013 4:46 am

I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this, so correct me if I'm wrong. It's late and I'm a little curious about something, so forgive me if I ramble. Haha I'm buying my pup from a breeder that seemingly takes great care of her dogs. She has all the paperwork, for all of her dogs. When I get my puppy, she's giving me all the bet information as well as the shots and stuff that he's already started. She doesn't inbreed and only lets a female have a few litters in its life before she retires her and keeps her as a pet only. The breeder doesn't allow the pups to go until they're 8 weeks old. She also offers open arms to any of her dogs that she's sold that can no longer be taken care of/aren't wanted by their owner. Her, her husband and her kids live on 25 acres and her entire family is involved with raising and socializing the animals. So here's my question. (I know, you're all thinking FINALLY! Haha)
Well, my future puppy is located in my signature. His dad is AKC registered and his mom is CKC registered. Therefore, he's only CKC registered. I know the CKC doesn't mean much and the AKC is more respected, so to speak. I can look at the pedigree for both the mom and dad and the mom has a few AKC ancestors but most are CKC. I'm not breeding him, so registration really doesn't matter that much. Now, I'm already in love with my baby, so I'm getting him no matter what, but I'm just curious about the possibility that he isn't purebred...even if he looks it? I'm just shelling out money and I want to be a little more confident about it. Haha. Thank you ahead of time!

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet he's purebred.

I'm sure he's probably purebred. Do you want us to take a look at the pedigree? Feel free to post if you want Smile

There's nothing really that suggests that your pup is a mixed breed. The inconsistencies in the pedigree is simply just because no one has put the dog in the database.

The CKC (I'm assuming is ConKC and not CanKC [Canadian]) is from my knowledge a money making registry and isn't a real (real in the sense that it really doesn't mean anything and they'll register any dog of any lineage[pure or mixed]) registry. Usually people who register ConKC is because they cannot legally register any puppies from the dog through the AKC for one reason or another (usually because a nonbreeding contract has been breached).

I'm sure he is purebred, there are a ton of dogs not registered at all that are very obviously purebred. I wouldn't say the breeder is breeding quality siberians, though. They are pretty much all out of standard. Ceara gave you some good info on AKC/CKC differences.
Alki is very cute in your signature photo, though.

Should be purebreed. But trust me. Once you get him home and all over you... it wouldnt matter. He's your baby for life. He loves you no matter how you look.

I'd agree, there really isn't anything to indicate your pup is not purebred....aside from the other red flags about this breeder, your pup looks to be purebred. It would only really matter if you were planning on showing or potentially breeding the pup in the future-

Thanks for the responses! The breeder doesn't breed for show or anything. She just wants them to have a good temperament and personality. Yeah, showing and breeding aren't important to me. I mean, a showing option would be nice but it's expensive anyway. Haha.

It sounds like they are more ethical than some breeders (taking dogs back, not letting them go before 8 weeks, not doing a ton of litters, etc) however, I would liek to see the proof of health testing - I don't see that on their website.

They did health testing on the sire of my pups litter but not on the dam (to my knowledge).
