Ahsoka just puked this up. She's been dry heaving for hours, bit I thought it was hunger pukes. She hasn't really eaten anything today.

Worms?!?!?!?!! IMAG1791

I have never had to deal with worm infestation before. I've given dewormer plenty, but I've never witnessed a dog puke up a giant worm.
Am I dealing with a typical roundworm here? A lot of these worms look alike when googling pictures.
I gave her a dose of dewormer, but the stuff I have only covers roundworm and hookworm.
I am thoroughly grossed out now. (Not to mention I'm sick, so this is doubly enjoyable)

Are you sure it's not a tape worm? On my phone so I can't see very clearly... Also is it dead? I think when dogs are heavily infested with worms (esp puppies) they can/do puke up worms..

I use Panacur (the equine one specifically because it's readily available and cheaper, but the dosage needs to be adjusted.)

Doesn't look like a tape to me. I'm no expert on it but they normally aren't smooth. It does look more like a round worm to me.

^ Pretty much this.

Yea, its round. And she just puked up a HUGE pile of them... O_o
And the first one was still moving... It was all I could do to clean up the pile of them properly without making myself sick just now.

Is this cause for a vet visit? Or will treating her with dewormers be sufficient? That pile scared me a little...

With such a young puppy, and a large amount of worms, I would make a visit to the vet. The wormer you're using may not be strong enough or the dosing may not be accurate.

And another decent sized pile... She's finally eating now though. She didn't eat all day.

Yea, I suppose I have to find someplace to take her, as I'm not going back to that last place.

Puking up roundworms is usually I sign of a really bad infestation (worms in the stomach instead of intestines) Kale had it too when I got him ( plus coccida). Take a fresh stool sample (pooped within 4 hours) to your vet visit so they can check for any other possible parasites. Don't feel bad! Almost all puppies that come into the practice I work for have roundworms. It's very common.

That is definately roundworms Balon had them when we got him too. He threw up several of these while being treated so gross!!!! Balon was treated with panacur C and my vet did two rounds of it to be sure she got them in all the stages.

Agreed- round worms. However puking them up is not normal and indicates that puppy has never been treated (or treated improperly) for worms. I'd get to a vet, as this infestation seems to be quite severe, this could cause a blockage if treated improperly.

Yep I'd go to the vet. Kiba had worms bad when I first got her so the vet had us coming in to be weighed regularly and gave some sort of extra dosage to kill all the suckers. I don't think worm treatments are very expensive.

It looks like round worm,& she's infested heavily, if she's vomiting the worms.I reccomended going to Vet,because if treated improperply it can cause other problems.

My cat had it too,it's very common in young animals.

Our new puppy has roundworms too. We took her to the vet yesterday and they gave her a 3 day course of Panacur. The vet said it should clear it up, so we're rechecking her on the next visit in a few weeks. Make sure you clean up all her poop, so it doesn't infest you're yard. Also, make sure all you're other dog's are taking their monthly heartworm pill, because it can spread to them too. Smile

Oh wow, I didn't see the extra replies. I've had my hands FULL this weekend...
I got her on Pyrantel Pamoate, 4.54mg. I've been calculating her dose myself, and I haven't seen any worm paraphenalia since the second day. She went from throwing them up to pooping them out. I'm patrolling like the city poop police... No poop goes unchecked or unscooped!
All the dogs got to be dewormed, just in case, and I will do a follow up dose in two weeks for the uninfected ones, one week for the semi-hopefully less infected one.
She is now eating again, and drinking normally. Peeing and pooping normally. Which is nice.

I wouldn't pay an office visit charge for worms if they are being treated, I'd just take in a fresh stool sample in to check for other parasites like coccida and giardia. $20 Vs %45... I'd take the $20 lol She'll get her check up when she goes in for her next shots. That's what I would do at least. They would do the exact same thing if you brought her in, check a stool sample lol
