We are going back and forth of doing this. So I have to get maggie's expressed every month since she was 5 months old. It is really bad sometimes.

I was wondering if anyone has ever done this or deal with it at this extent with a larger breed dog.

My vet offers to do the surgery but I dunno if I want to do it.

no not at all. I might just deal with expressing every month. I want to know the pros and cons first.

The only downside of the surgery is that she'll have stitches in two spots around her anus. After 10-14 days everything should be all healed up. She'll definitely be sore. It Kale had that, I'd, personally, get them removed instead of waiting around for an anal gland abscess that would need a huge drain tube for 5 days. I can't imagine flushing a drain tube on Kale's butt

I'd also get it removed, anal gland abscesses are horrible and very common when you're getting them expressed that often. Poor Maggie

I don't much about this, but I would have them removed. Luckily, my boys never have had a problem.
