Is Loki a full Husky? Empty
PostSubject: Is Loki a full Husky?   Is Loki a full Husky? EmptyMon Feb 18, 2013 2:04 am

So i adopted loki from a shelter about 8 months ago and ive been wondering exactly what is he mixed with?

The shelter claimed he was an alaskan husky (which i know is a catch all term for sled husky mix) but im just curious as to exactly what breed he might be mixed with (if hes actually amix at all) so i can finally answer everyones question. He's about 35 pounds and its almost impossible for him to gain any weight. i dont know exact height, but i do know hes going on about 2. He acts exactly like a husky, love his runs, loves chasing things smaller than him, talks ALOT, and is too smart for his own good. My only question to his breed in his size and his "dirty" face.

ive had MANY people try to put a finger on his other breed. so far ive heard: wolf (not at all), corgi, shepherd, coyote, collie, pure husky, and even fox. personally ive contemplated if hes just a mini... or if hes just a smaller end husky. another theory of mine is that hes stunted. He was a stray in the local woods and was emaciated when he came in the shelter. because he was really young, im wondering if he was a stray as a puppy and didnt recieve proper nutrience. Really, if i never found out, it doesnt matter to me because ill love him no matter what I love you , i dont care about pure breeds... its just a long time curiosity of mine.

any input helps Smile

you could upload them on imgur and post the link, or directly upload them to the post/site as you make a reply. Those are prolly the easiest ways.

We can all take guesses (after pictures are up), but if it truly irks you that much you could just get a DNA test. The results are pretty much just for fun as almost any dog will have some mix, and if you run the test designed for mixes on a pure bred it notes you'll probably get an inaccurate result of mixes. In fact, they openly say you can't use them as a reliable way of testing for a pure bred even if you get the test designed for pure breds.

My advice would to just pick something to call him and go with it. Since we'll never be able to get paperwork on Crispin (he was born a stray) we just go with the best guess of husky/GSD which happens to line up perfectly with almost all aspects of his appearance and behavior. My wife always clarifies with "we think", but I gave up on that and just give a very confident answer. People won't even question it if you just give them any old answer confidently enough as long as it seems realistic.

I agree with Drew. My Kerian was adopted from a shelter they listed her as a Alaskan Husky also, I really think she is Siberian but I don't care she is our little girl that is that.

Hopefully you can get some pictures up soon.

More than lickely he is a mix since 35 lbs is small for a male husky. As said before you can always do a DNA test to find out or just do as we have done with all of our rescues, if you can nail down at least 2 of what he is, name those or just call him a husky mix. Looking forward to the pictures, I use photobucket.
