PostSubject: Marking? UTI?   Marking? UTI? EmptyWed Feb 20, 2013 9:02 pm

So.
We only leave Alki alone on M/W when we have class.
We thought he was housetrained.
We still expected accidents, since he's so young, but this is just weird.
When we take him to my parents house, he never has an accident...the whole weekend!
He's bell potty trained.
There's a set of bells that he rings when he has to go out.
For 2 weeks, not one accident.
He would ring his bell and we'd take him out.
No issues!
As I said, we'd take the bells to my parents house and he'd still do his thing without any accidents in the house.

We got a cat about a week ago and ever since then, Alki has had "accidents". It's strange though, he'll walk while he pees.
We noticed at my parents house this past weekend, that he does it outside as well.
About 15 minutes ago, we got out of the shower and came back out, Alki was asleep under the chair like he was when we got in the shower.
Caitlyn went over to pet him and she picked him up and brought him to the couch.
Then she put him down and went to go brush her hair.
I went to go change the laundry over.
In a span of maybe 5 minutes, he started peeing outside the laundry room, trailed it through the living room, behind the couch, across Caitlyn's laptop, across the living room floor, into the bedroom and into our bathroom. It was a steady path of drips and streams. THEN, he rang his bell.

I thought maybe he was just marking because of the cat, but I didn't know if he would do that this young. I also thought, maybe it's a UTI since he's in his crate for about 3 hours each M/W. Any suggestions?

He just did it again. Not as bad, but still. He went and rang his bell, turned around and started peeing while he was walking towards us. It has to be some sort of infection or issue. That's twice he's stream peed in half an hour!

I'd say that it could be a UTI if he is peeing and not noticing that he is, also I would check to see if there is blood in his urine or if he is in pain when he is peeing. My guy when he was little and still when he's excited at the dog park will start peeing and just walk while peeing. It's rather annoying but he doesn't do it as much as he used to.

He might be going through a rebellious stage, Rue would slip up for a while every few months and have accidents or not ask. Your guy is pretty young so it could be that. If you are at all concerned I would go to the vet to rule out a UTI.

Well, we're heading to the vet tomorrow. So I'll ask her. There's no blood. But we have noticed that when we take him out to pee sometimes, he'll only have a few drips. He's also been liking his...area...a lot the past few days. I read that might be a symptom?

My pup was doing the same thing. I took him to the vet and he did have a slight bladder infection. We gave him the medicine and he got better. However, every once in a while he does walk and pee in the house and he licks his privates often.

I will be curious to here what happened at your pups pet appointment. Please post.

Oh man. Part of me hopes that's it, so there's an answer and we can help him. The other hopes that it's not and that he's not in pain.

His appointment is at 2:30, I'll post when we get home!

Koda never acted like he was in pain. He was still extremely playful, ate well and drank all of his water.

Ahh. Thank you for boosting! I forgot to update! Well, she did a urinalysis. She said there was bacteria but no crystals. She postponed his shots for two weeks and put him on antibiotics for the two weeks.

Same thing here. I think maybe it is just a puppy attention span thing. I hope. Otherwise he is always playful.

Balon did this as well, in fact it got so bad the vet thought he had a medical problem! He did have a slight infection, which was treated, but really it was going back to square one in house training that stopped him from doing it. I literally kept a chart on him, and plan on doing so with my new puppy as well. Sometimes you think your taking them out enough, but aren't. I would take him out a lot more, even if he is not ringing the bell. Just ring the bell yourself and take him out! This too shall pass.

Nikko had a UTI as well, he would have accidents, and also he would pee several times just a little amount. Also, Yukon sometimes pees while he walks too.

Anyway, let us know if it gets any better. For his age, he is still learning so I would not be discouraged if he has accidents. Yukon had accidents for the first few weeks, it just became less frequent. Nikko took over 2 months to fully potty train!

Well. He's been on antibiotics since Thursday...no change so far. We just walked him out and he started peeing AS HE WAS WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS! Definitely not normal. Sad

I would think this is stress. He's still a pup and bringing a cat in is another huge adjustment.
