2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Hi,

So I started to supplement our huskies diet with veggies like raw cubed carrots, but they are not being digested and are coming out whole.

He has also had Diarrhea on and off since we got him as a puppy.

Carrots have a cell wall that can be hard to brreak down and fully digest... It's not much of a supplement really- just a treat.

Has your puppy been wormed adequately? Do you change foods or amounts often? If neither one of those things are the culprit your dogs tummy may just not agree with the food.

Dogs cannot break down plant cell walls, their bodies are made for digesting meat, i.e. animal cells, not plants. So in order for a dog to get any benefit from plant matter it would need to be cooked beforehand, or ground into a paste, to destroy the plant cell walls.

So the undigested carrots are normal. Consistent diarrhea is not normal.

My mom's Yorkie wasn't able to digest a carrot and had to have an GI surgery. Be careful with large pieces of carrots.

Veggies don't really do anything for dogs. We use baby carrots as special training treats, but thats the extent of our veggie use.

What are you trying to use the veggies for?

I had no idea carrots could be used as treats. Do most dogs like them?

As far as the diarrhea, it could be any number of causes. How often is it off and on? Are there any other symptoms that stand out?

It's just one of those "depends on the dog" things. Sheba would do back flips for them. Kennedy does this thing where she will spit it out and kinda play with it until she gets bored and then she may or may not eat them. She's my weird one.
