1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. No food. No to obeying :( Empty
PostSubject: No food. No to obeying :(   No food. No to obeying :( EmptyTue May 28, 2013 9:14 pm

I have a problem with my Rylai here. I have been training for almost 2months now and of course, she had learned some few tricks and command. But my problem is that whenever I give a command with no food or something special, she wont listen, she'll just walk around me or go somewhere. But if I have some treats, she will automatically obey my commands. What should I do with this? She's a 5 months old pup.

Please I need your advice on this.
Thanks and God Bless Smile

That is a typical husky behavior. If they don't see the reward in doing something for you, they most likely won't bother, lol. Most dogs will gladly do what is asked, but to a husky it must be worth doing it the first place, otherwise they just won't do it.

What I would suggest starting to do is give a command then treat, give another different command and don't treat, then give another different command and treat again. You can change the sequence as well. So she's listening because you are holding the treats, but she doesnt get one every time. It's showing her that she does not get a treat every time, but you still expect her to obey. It's a start at least Smile

I do what Brooke suggests with Sky (4 1/2m) and it works well for us of course there are odd times when she still ignores me or has a moan about doing it

Agreeing with Brooke on this one. Start with a command and always treat, then treat every other time, eventually randomize when she gets the treat and how much of the treat she gets... Eventually, she'll figure it out. Smile
