6 Week old Husky issues Empty
PostSubject: 6 Week old Husky issues   6 Week old Husky issues EmptyMon Jun 17, 2013 3:01 am

We just picked up a 6 week old husky puppy 2 days ago. (I know this is too early but it was either get him or somebody else would because the breeder had only a few left.) They were kept in a play pin outside away from the mom and dad besides when they were feeding. The breeder at 6 weeks had them eating puppy food. Our friends also went and picked up another one of the puppies from the same breeder.

They are both males and do a lot better when they are around each other. We are having our puppy (Zeek) be an inside dog and crate training him. They are having their puppy (Hunter) to be an outside dog and having him sleep in their room in a crate until he is older.

We both want them to be together until they are 8 weeks to help them learn biting inhibitions. But I am worried that the way they are getting trained we can't have them spend overnights together or even days because they tend to keep theirs outside all day. And we don't want to confuse them by switching houses so they can sleep together.

Would it be better to keep them together till 8 weeks or just have play dates? We just really don't want to confuse them or cause more anxiety for the puppies.

Thanks, CB

I would keep them together as long as possible!

I would also try talking you're friends into letting the puppy stay inside, until the puppy is at least 6-8 months at the very least! There are so many dangers outside for a young puppy and being out there alone at this young age when he's use to being with his brothers/sisters has to be so scary. Someone can easily come in the yard and steal the puppy or some type of wild animal could attack it.

I'm not sure where you live, but the summer heat can also take a tole on such a small puppy. Please try to convince you're friends to crate the puppy inside and keep them together until 8 weeks at the very least, !0 weeks would be ideal.
