The BEST book on the history of the Siberian? Empty
PostSubject: The BEST book on the history of the Siberian?   The BEST book on the history of the Siberian? EmptyMon Jun 30, 2014 6:49 pm

I've been looking and haven't been able to find any book/s about the ancient to modern history of our beloved Siberians. I own a lot of books that might dedicate a few pages to a chapter about the history, founding, breeding, origins, Chukchi, etc. Are there any books like this? I'm about to order The Cruelest Miles, but I think it will be more about the Iditarod origin story and not "how the Sibe came to be." I know from research that the Sibe and Mals are one of the oldest breeds, and the breeds most closely related DNA-wise to the wolf. That's what I'd like to read more about. The evolutionary process from wolf to Sibe. That sort of stuff. I guess basically anything and everything about the history of Sibes living with the Eskimos and ancient tribes, up to the Iditarod story. Not sure if this book exists, as maybe we just don't know much about that time period in history. Help if you can! Thanks.

How about  books about siberians that I think are informative?
Don't know about the best...
Both these books have a wealth of information, but are poorly organized.

Racing Alaskan Sled Dogs by Bill Vaudrin, Alaska Northwest Publishing Co. 1976.
(out of print, by available on Amazon)
and
The Siberian Husky by International Siberian Husky Club, 2nd ed. 1977, Lee's Print Shop.
(3rd edition available from IHSHC)

The Siberian Husky includes articles and was printed by the breeders of our second husky, Natasha.
The breeders were Bob and Lee Hills of Snoshu Kennels (p. 30-31 in last section).
They bred and raced.
Both have since passed away.
Natasha's older half brother Sonny from their kennel was a most strikingly beautiful Siberian and an award winner.
