The tree in the front yard needed trimmed and while my husband was out there Nanook just sat with his nose pressed against the window watching. I decided to get his tie out line and let him in the front yard...totally expecting him to think he was free to run away LOL.....he didn't even try to bolt like I expected. Never even fully extended the 50 foot rope, just hung out with my husband...sure almost knocking over the ladder a few times LOL but he surprised me, I really thought he would try to take off.

What kind of tie outs do you guys use? My boyfriends mom bought us some of those ones that screw into the ground, they haven't been used yet cause I do not trust them, so just wondering if you both had sturdier ones?

I use one that screws into the ground, and it's strong enough. Pippa doesn't run around full speed while she's on it either though and I never leave her unattended.

Mine is just like the type you latch to itself, wrap around a tree or post.....outside I use the patio post. I thought the same about the ground screws, when we take it up to the cabin I thought he would pull on it so much it would come loose. I am very curious to see how he reacts to it when we go to the cabin...all that space he will want to get to LOL

Ya I agree, Kato and Karma prefer the front grass yard over the dirt back yard. They Just roll around and lay upside down on it.

http://www.fourpaws.com/products/the-hurricane-tie-out-stake.htmI use a hurricane post.
This is not a temporary thing as it does not come out of the ground.
There are some variations of this as the one we had years ago just had one tab at the bottom not the several that this one does. (Both styles work great).
We used the spiral screw in and when the ground is soft it can spin its self out of the ground or it can widen the hole. But these are problems that take time so for camping as the dog would only be tied out if you were there you should not have a problem.

Bode is the same way. If we tie him out front (75' rope) he just chills and follows us around. We just bought a heavy duty rope from Home Depot and a couple carabiners and wrapped it around the tree.

Yeah, I will look into this one. I would never leave them outside alone, as I'm crazy paranoid that they will get away. but this would be a nice thing to have at my parents house when we visit so I don't constantly have to hold a leash when we are hanging out in the yard.

We have a Walmart, pretty close to my house so maybe I will swing over there tonight and see if they have a couple.

Maybe the screw in the ground ones are better than I thought, I'm just a little hesitant that the ground isn't hard enough here. I guess I will try one with my mellower husky first (who comes back if he gets off the leash at any mention of food) and see how it holds up!

yeah the hurricane is definately not for camping as it would take a lot to get it out of the ground
we have nothing to tie out to at home that would not have him wrapped up and use the hurricane as one side of a runner and another for a tie out

the spiral worked work a couple weeks then it kept failing in the spring with the rains but Bourbon bounces and moves around alot on the tie out.

Our runner/ tie outs are not permanant as we have a fenced yard and are training not to jump over the fence.
We do use a spiral in the front yard for the occasional use out there and will probably get them fo my moms house as they can be moved and I do not think they would want a permanant stake in the yard.
Years ago when we wanted to be done with the huricane we had to beat it more into the ground (it only sits 1 inch out of the ground) and take the chain link off the top of it. We let the grass grow over it and 7 years later I have no clue where it is in the yard.
