2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Maya and outbound socialization... Empty
PostSubject: Maya and outbound socialization...   Maya and outbound socialization... EmptyMon Aug 26, 2013 10:43 am

So I have had Maya for a little over a month now... She has learned many new things, such as night-night (go in the kennel), sit, stay, gee, haw, hike, and whoa. She has pulled me on skates, and the last week I have been working on SAR (Search and Rescue). She is amazing at finding things, as well as people socialization. Although when dogs come here to the house, she is very playful, and enjoys them, she can play for hours... Where my problem is, we went to Xenia for the Doggie Dash and Splash, everything was going great until a mixture of small things started throughout the day:

1. The sun was bothering her. So we stayed around shade most of the time.
2. She wouldn't drink from any of the water bowls. I have tried several times, in fact even staying by one for ½ hour.
3. She wanted nothing to do with the water to play in. She would not leave my side.
4. Other dogs were bombarding her. She usually just laid there like it was nothing, then she started to snap.
5. To top it all off, I had her micro chipped there (she didn't scream, but she turned her head REALLY fast).

I think the combination of all of the above may have made her a little anti-social around other places and dogs, again she loves people but if another dog comes to her she will start a very soft growl and then try to nip the dog around her.

So, my question is this:
Do I?
1. Dominate the situation and force her to stop (I believe this will build up anxiety towards other dogs).
2. Warn the other person that she is aggressive and I am working with her.
3. Stay away (I really don't like this one because of her SAR training and socialization, I need her to interact with everything and everyone. Plus it is kind of fun to watch the kids play).

Other options? Has this become a problem for others? I have never had a husky aggressive towards other animals.

Thanks,
Jeff

Just wanted to let everyone know that I continued Positive reinforcement and NILF training. After today's series of tests, she seems to have passed with flying colors.

Thanks
