I have 3 dogs, An alaskan malamute, a shepherd/lab mix, and a Husky. My husky is EXTREMELY well behaved. He has full roam of the house, is allowed off leash when we hike, is a certified therapy dog, etc. However, having said that- in the last few weeks he has been chewing A LOT. It's very abnormal for him. He actually chewed a Nylabone apart the other day and pulled pieces out of it. So, I thought maybe somethings wrong with his teeth- checked, nothing. I work in both a vets office and a doggie daycare and he gets walked everyday. On weekends we go hiking, and sometimes during the week we rollerblade, bike, etc. So I thought maybe I wasn't giving him enough exercise- we did go 3 days without a walk because we had three 95 degree days in a row. So I took him rollerblading and for a walk for over an hour and he still chewed up some stuff. I'm just wondering if anyone else's husky has acted out like this? I can't find what it is thats the issue, he's a really mellow dog and normally so well behaved. I don't know what's going on with him... It's really frustrating because I literally feel like he's mad at me for something-which is stupid, but our routine really hasn't changed at all.. Thoughts?

Maybe he got bored with his routine and needs some new toys or activities.

I thought that might have been it too.. but I took him on a road trip to visit my sisters school this past weekend.. we went to two different parks and a dog park there as well. He was literally busy all day long, was really well behaved and having a good day... I came home, he was exhausted- got up in the morning and found stuff chewed up- I don't know if he did it over night or first thing that morning. So frustrating! Have you tried bitter apple? Dizzy recently started a project of chewing up a rug, I coated it in bitter apple and he hasn't touched it since. Does he go after anything in particular or just random things. You might just have to crate him for a while.

... this dog. LOVES bitter apple. haha And he's really good about not chewing anything big up- like its never the furniture, a pillow, blankets, etc. It's usually small stuff.. plastic bags, my cell phone case, pens, etc. I don't know what the underlying issue is lol

Maybe he's a neat freak and doesn't like clutter. Wink All kidding aside, maybe just take a room and proof it like you're getting a puppy and start there. If he's good for a while in that room then start to slowly give him his freedom back. I don't think there is necessarily an underlying issue, they can change and try new things just like we do. Maybe one day there was a plastic bag that happened to smell like something interesting and he chewed it up, had fun and now he keeps trying new things. I would just limit his freedom when you're not around and go from there.
