Just wondering at what point in my puppy's age will he go through the Teenage phase? Also, what should I expect?

That usually starts around 5-7 months and lasts until about 2 years old. During this time their energy level amps up dramatically and they start to test their boundaries.

The key is to keep them exercised and never let them get bored!

PostSubject: Re: Teenage Phase   Teenage Phase EmptyTue Jun 12, 2012 5:29 pm

from what i hear it can start around 8 months i think.....and some huskies dont grow out of it but Jack calmed down around 3, we adopted him at a year/year and a half. Sierra was 6 when we got her and is is a bigger PIA then jack and she is 9 now!

you will know the teenage stage when Qannik stops doing things you ask him to.
if he used to understand every command you gave him but now stops doing them or only picks what ones to. if you thought you had an "off leash" husky and all of a sudden Qannik is half way down the street with no signs of stopping, if everything in your house is being eaten now, if your getting talked back to you now have a teenager!

Seems like that process has started then! He's been out of focus for about two weeks. Definitely testing us. However, in his defense, he was neutered last Wednesday and hasn't been exercised since because of doctors orders. Plus, the poor little guy has to wear his cone because all he wants to do is lick his wound area. On top of that, he got a UTI from the surgery...he had an undescended testicle so his operation was a little more involed. Tomorrow we can take the cone off and start back to our normal life. Can't wait to get him out for a nice walk.

Thanks for the info. At least we know a little more of what to expect!

Good luck! were in the teenager phase as well. Make sure you are being consistent, now is when bad habits are made (we've learned that the hard way!) Best of luck!

Biko, entered that phase at about 17 months. Thought he was going to get his azz kicked a few times by other dogs because of his punky attitude. Finally put him through 2 rounds of obedience, then settled down enough to pass Canine Good Citizen test this February.

I think she might have just been lucky, and Koda was a very obedient pup the whole time.

Generally, I don't think it's something you can avoid, just work with.

Yes, it's not something you can really avoid through training. All huskies will need consistent training, some will be more disobedient and wily than others. My Yuki is a food-motivated nut, so she is extremely obedient as long as the treat jar is around. And for the most part, she does not test me even without treats, I can't think of a time where she hasn't listened to 'sit' or 'stay'. She is 15 months. Link however, is already 21 months, and didn't test me at all from 15-18 months and was an absolute gem but around 18/19 months he started being a PILL! I can't get him to listen for anything! It's been a wild ride but we'll see when Link grows out of this rebellious stage, I got lucky with Yuki but looks like I'm not so lucky with Link. Good luck, all of you who are riding the same boat as me with wild teens! Razz

Ok I think my Loki has begun this stage, getting really sassy, and put his mouth on my wrist when I pulled him away from a cord! Second time this month he did that. He got put in time out!

I never had these issues with Balon, he is a dream. His little brother is a brat lol. He even dug a hole in my couch! Never had a dog do that before either. One of us may not make it until he's 2! Smile

Haha Bode does this too when he is displeased with something. He also loves to do it into your crotch or stomach. Weirdo.
