Jasper just literally chewed the white tip of his tail off... Not the bone, just the hair but I'm still worried. Any one have this happen or know why he did it? Sad

Link and his best friend Korra (also on here) both did it in the past 4 months.

Boiled down it is most likely due to stress or anxiety, but could be allergic reactions to something or possibly fleas.

It is very difficult to say for sure.

well we went to the park right after he did it, he didn't bother it the whole time we were there and hasn't touched it since. It honestly looks like someone just cut the hair, it's still about 1/2 inch long. He didn't break skin or chew on the bone and hasn't licked/chewed any other part of his body at all.

Think it's worth a vet visit, or maybe just keep an eye on it and assume he was bored or nervous?

Bode did this when he was younger. Chewed it off once, hasn't done it again since. I'd keep an eye for other symptoms of a problem, but it's likely it was just boredom/anxiety.

Yeah, chances are it isn't a medical issue. Just be on the lookout for other signs of boredom or anxiety and then you can work on more mental and physical stimulation. And if you see him chewing his tail, a quick correction and a redirection is all you need in the moment.

I kind of thought it would. They shaved a patch on his leg for an iv when he was neutered and that took months to fully fill in.

When my schedule changes significantly Korra will start chewing. She's done it three times. Evil or Very Mad  I just try to exercise her extra. Though if it starts happening a few times within a few days I cone for a week, she seems to forget about it. Baron on the forum has done it too. I believe there's an old thread where a few other members have talked about theirs chewing the tip too.
Sounds like as long as it doesn't become a habit you're a-ok. It's just going to look funny for a long while.

I swear he did it on purpose cause he knows I loved his little white tip lol. And I know it sounds vain but its embarrassing when someone at the dog park says 'omg what happened to your dogs tail!?'

Pippa did it a few months ago too and I'm just now seeing a little bit of growth.

My parent's dog has done it in the past, although it was at the base of her tail and it was an allergy. Definitely keep an eye out if it gets worse or if he won't stop. It can get bad pretty quickly if they do it too frequently.

Paw Paw did it when he wasn't getting enough exercise. When we rescued him at 7 months old, he had chewed most of the fur off his entire tail because he was kept in a medium-sized crate that he couldn't even stand up in all the way. And he was never exercised, just tied to a tree in someone's backyard to potty, and then brought back in and put back in his crate.

Jasper gets exercised alot, two hours at the dog park today and a walk... but just then he went to the door and I wouldn't let him out (he was just out I know he doesn't have to pee) and when I went into the room to check on him he had more of his tail pulled out! This is the first time since yesterday afternoon, so I'm thinking it's because he gets mad with me. He would do it more often if it were allergies or a skin condition right??

Demon did this as a puppy too, but I never caught him in the act. It looked like someone had taken scissors to his tail. Very Happy. Like others have said I wouldn't worry too much unless it becomes constant. Demon hasn't done it in years.
