PostSubject: not home much   not home much EmptyMon Jan 12, 2015 11:44 pm

Work has been killer lately. Wake up at 6am, leave by 7am. Come home between 12 and 2 for about 20 mins then home again around 6 or 7. I feed her first thing in the morning then when I get home. Feel like I'm starving her with only 2 cups of food. What do you guys think?

So basically she is out and about for 1he in morning, 20mins mid day and usually 4hrs at night. Is this enough?

Is she just out in the yard or getting structured walks? How old? Your schedule isn't a ton different than mine only I'm home by 5 and my adult dog gets 2 cups a day and is fine. She gets a little more in summer months when we are getting more miles in on our walks but a growing pup can handle a little more food though I wouldn't offer much more.

My boys only get about 2 cups per day for the most part (plus their stuffed and frozen kongs during the day). They seem to be fine. When I was feeding them more, they pooped a lot more and not "good" poops. I do feed Sinatra a bit more sometimes as I am still trying to get some weight on him from his"past life".

They aren't overly active with this deep freeze weather we have been having, so I try my best not to over feed them.

Lately no walks cause it's so cold but usually get a good 10mins of running and playing in the yard. loved that I moved into a house that had a fenced yard. Yes I noticed that with two cups not a lot of poop and always solid! I'm gonna stick with 2 cups just trying to see what others are doing

I've forgotten - how old is Bandit?  That doesn't seem like a lot of activity. I actually find Ami needs more, not less activity in the cold.  He becomes a barrel of monkeys in the winter and if he's not playing hard with Archer for hours and hours, then I need to walk him...a LOT.  Like 3-4 miles plus his rooting around the property, playing with me with tug or ball...

And last year, when he was tethered on a trolley or in a crate all the time except for outings with me on leash, it was 3.4 miles morning and 2 - 2.25 miles evening plus several play times with ball, tuggy and squeeky toy.

depends on the food you are feeding her, ours eat 1.75 cups a day each.

Yeah its cold, but 10 minutes of playing doesnt seem like enough exercise to me, how old is bandit? if she is still a puppy thats ok, but really the rule of thumb is 5 minutes walking per month. Cold or no cold, unless its -35 we walk ours. They still walked 40 minutes this morning in -25 weather. they'll walk another 30 tonight.
