PostSubject: Huskies in the Caribbeans    huskies - Huskies in the Caribbeans EmptyMon Dec 26, 2016 3:14 am

I was wondering who's had experience with Huskies in The Caribbean Islands, if anyone has. OR, if anyone has experience with them in VERY hot climates. My boyfriend and I bought our girl last May and were planning on staying in the US but things have changed and we need to move to his country, Curacao. Since we've had to make the decision to move I want to exhaust every option there could be for her to be 100% comfortable in such a warm climate before I move her there. We would like to not have to give her up, as she is LITERALLY my best friend. We have all the means to take care of her, she will have a 100% AC'd house along with a fence in backyard, pool, water, and we of course will leave her coat and exercise her 2 times daily as we do already, etc. Any suggestions or advice would be WELL appreciated from her, I and my boyfriend! Thank you in advance!huskies - Huskies in the Caribbeans Img_0610

Luna's a really pretty young Lady, she looks to be a charming companion.

(Slap me if I start to sound too condescending)  Huskies seem to be the ultimate adaptable dog, they manage the weather in the frozen north and mine manage the summer heat in the US Southwest with little problem.

Your biggest problem with heat is that since dogs mainly cool themselves by evaporation off their tongues and some radiation off ears and paws - the Humidity in Cucaçao is going to be your biggest challenge.  Since she'll be in the A/C you'll probably find her going through quite a bit more water than she is now (though Syracuse, this time of year is dry because of the  cold).

As you commented, leaving her coat intact will be beneficial (read critical) since it helps keep them cooler in the heat as well as warmer in the cold (like the insulation in your attic)

Exercise normal cautions - for example, don't exercise her during the heat of the day - and you companion should do fine.  Not so sure about the human part though.  I envy you your relocation, but I can't handle the humidity of the islands.

We have had people from India have huskies on this site and the heat and humidity there is insane. As long as cool spots exist and you time her outside time correctly, morning and evening, she will be fine. Keep her off really hot sand and hot pavement/concrete are big things.

Welcome to the forum. She is beautiful.
