Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

My boy was just diagnosed with Atopy...he constantly chews at his feet because of it. Does anyone else have this problem?

I didn't know what Atopy was so I had to Google it::

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2082&aid=137

I personally do not have experience with this, but I included the link which describes Atopy for those who don't know what it is.

We have this problem with one of ours too (Glory). It is a huge pain that never goes away.

Yea....it's just something he recently started doing....we try not to let him chew when we catch him because we don't want him to make his feet raw....but I don't really know what else to do about it

We've made simple diet changes along with supplements that we give and try to bathe more frequently than we would otherwise. Using an oatmeal shampoo along with a moisturizing conditioner helps. All that stuff helps a little but doesn't make the problem go away. Glory is still regularly gnawing away at her feet but she does it less than she used to and I stop her when she starts working on her feet for too long.

My Mom's husky Sky has an ongoing itch under his chin and when left alone, he will scratch it until it bleeds...We thought it was food-related at first, and switched his food to one that didn't have chicken in it, but that didn't seem to work.
She usually puts the cone on him when she leaves the house and throughout the years has been putting a steroid cream on there or else a mix of water and vinegar. Her new vet also suggested giving him an antihistamine like Benadryl.
