Hi Guys-
So I posted here a few days ago with the issue of my 5 m.o. pup Bane not liking his crate anymore. I got some wonderful advice and decided to use it in order to salvage crate training one last time. Well...I came home yesterday and my poor boy had cut his nose up pretty good fighting to get out of his crate. (I threw the crate in the basement immediately. No more crate for this guy...we're going to have to try something different for when we aren't home).

The cut is a pretty bad scrape (no more fur on the area) but it doesn't seem too deep. It bled minimally and doesn't seem to hurt him when I apply a warm cloth to wash it.

However, the cut is now building a greenish yellow pus. I have been washing it with warm water and applying neosporin every couple of hours or so. Is this bad enough that he should go to a vet? I am worried about infection. I checked the crate for rust but don't really see any. Theres one portion on the outside of it that has the tiniest bit.

Does anyone else freak out over the smallest things with their pups? I have cut myself numerous times where I've seen the same pus and I slap some neosporin and a bandaid on it and don't think twice of it. With Bane-thoughts of emergency surgery and antibiotics are running through my mind!

I don't want to give bad advice but to me, it's not *too* bad and as long as it's kept clean it should heal ok without infection. If it was a cut that required stitches or something I'd be more concerned but, in my own opinion, it's not that bad.

Agree with Jimmy, just odd that is green and has pus, which is indicative to infection. Try coconut oil has similar healing properties of the neosporin, it is my go to vs neo. If it still is pus filled I would go to the vet on Monday.

Z'ev did much the same with his nose but we had no option, he HAS to be crated. He is now happy to reside in his crate - both the house and the shop. His nose has healed fine and the hair has all grown in again.

At least in people, husband won't use neosporin - too many people react (allergic) to it and complicates wound healing. I didn't do anything with Z'ev's nose other than to watch it, now you can't even tell he ever scraped it off.
