| Okay I recently got a husky pup and she is a handful most days. We have a 9 month old lab pointer mix who is also a hand full. I have a question. I can't seem to separate the two of them. They both have their own cages and beds and their food and water bowls are separate as well but they will only sleep together. I have tried putting them in their own cages and I have an xxxl cage i bought when I thought I was buying a great dane and a 42 inch cage. They both sleep in one cage. for the past week and a half they won't stop crying to get into the other one's cage. I had no problems with my other dog who I've had since she was 6 weeks old being in her crate, but now even she is crying and wanting to cuddle. I've been told I'm a bad pet owner for letting them sleep together. but I don't want to separate them if it will cause more problems. We got Castiel because our vet said it would help with our other dogs Separation Anxiety. Now they are attached at the hip. Just wondering if anyone else has has similar problems |

| Storm! That was the name of the Malamute I grew up with. Question: Are your pups ONLY paying attention to each other all the time and ignoring everyone and everything else? Is your younger puppy still responding to you and to training, or does she only just want to hang out with the older pup -- and/or vice versa? |

| Cora, they're still young puppies and it's more common for them to sleep en masse than not. They're also pack animals and sleeping together in their den would be the norm more than not, I think.
As Faye suggests if they respond to you individually and you're training each of them individually as well as a group then, my personal opinion, I wouldn't be concerned where they sleep.
If, during the day you can't break them apart for individual work then you're going to have to force the separation - they need to respond to you, your husband and eventually your children. The fact that they're, as you phrase it, joined at the hip (or velcro pups) is sweet - it's a lot better than the alternative of having three jealous, completely independent dogs. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| They need to be built up individually to have confidence without the other. If you've been doing separate training and walks already you may try taking one to doggy daycare one day and the other the next. As their individual confidence grow they should become easier to separate at night. _________________ |

| I've had two dogs before and I found training the puppy easier if I used the older dog to show them how to do it they catch on quicker. Thats what I've been doing with Cas(husky). I've been using Storm to show her how to do the tricks and in a week and a half Cas has learned sit lay down and shake we are currently working on staying. I have never had an issue with crating a dog or puppy before now. I have had Storm(lab/pointer) for almost 8 months and didn't have an issue past the first couple of days. Cas took to the cage fine but only if she gets to share with Storm. I've never had issues owning two dogs but these to are attached. I took Cas to the vet came home to two noise complaints and I could hear Storm crying and howling. Took Storm to the groomers cause her nails are made of steel and she has broken 6 pairs of clippers and came back to Cas crying and howling as soon as they are together it's fine. And Storm has been around other dogs and never acted like this but with Cas it seems to be her Achilles heel. We take them to the dog park and they play fine with other dogs and don't seem to worry about them but I have never seen two dogs bond like this. |

| Thanks for finally telling us who they are - it really helps to be able to use names rather than "the lab puppy" and "the husky puppy" I wish I could help because by your latest it's obvious that you have a problem with separation anxiety - to an extreme? I, too, have three dogs but when I leave either or all three at home I get "You're leaving meeeeeee...." when I drive away but they also quiet down quickly after I've left - or so says my neighbor. You may now ignore my other comment ... if there are no problems with them independently then it should be fine for them to sleep together. It's obvious, from your note, that there are problems when they're separated so it's time to work with them more as individuals than as part of a pack ... but I'll leave that to others who have more experience with problem pups. Do you mind if I ask what's on the sign that you have in your avatar ... ? Facebook, btw, tells me that it can't find your page maybe you've misspelled it in your profile. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| It's my daughter's kindergarten graduation award. I really don't have a problem with them individually unless I leave with one of them. I can play with one and the other will be fine. I don't know maybe I'm just over reacting to nothing. Storm is my first dog with separation anxiety and Cas is my first husky. So I'm a little bit out of my element with them |

| Can you train one dog in one room with the other in another room completely out of sight? Definitely extreme separation anxiety. Bonded dogs of any age are a pain. My female couldn't care less if my other two are around but my gsd mix is heart broken if she goes without him. I usually leave him with my husband as a distraction when I take her and he calms faster. I also let her out to wander the yard without him sometimes. It's a slow tedious process. _________________ |
