I ran out of the Wegman's food I've been using to cut down Ami's calories. Did not want to drive far so ended up, uncomfortably, studying the dog food aisle at the local walmart. Came across a new food, unfamiliar to me. Turns out its a 5 star on dog food advisor. Crave. Made by Mars, which probably is not so great. Assembled in US, ingredients sourced world wide so will have to check if possible, what comes from China. Only down side is the calorie count is through the roof - ranging from 438 to 489 ish depending on flavor.

But - looks like it could be cheaper per month even though it seems expensive and largest bag is only 22 pounds. Contains 88 cups which means it would probably last a month for both Ami and Z'ev. If, and that's a big if, I can keep Ami satisfied with only 1.5 cups a day at most. Which I might...the kibble bit is on the small size so putting it in his slow feed bowl takes longer to eat than the Wegman's larger kibble.

And, its available on Chewy so I won't have to run out to Ithaca/Elmira/Corning/Geneva for food (I'm pissed at myself, just plain forgot to get it last time at Wegman's!)

Now, the only thing is...will it help cut down on tartar for Z'ev. The Wegman's food, like the 4Health with Ami, seems to be increasing the tartar. Raw bones seems to help that in both dogs but so did the TOTW for Ami. Problem with raw bones for Z'ev is, I have to put him in the garage crate as he guards his bones and won't come out unless he's lonesome and wants back in the house. In the house crate, he'll stay almost a full day before his bladder says "Let me outta here!!!"

I never knew where to look for calorie content. Your post made me look, lol. The food I have Kohdi and Mishka on is at 382 kcal (per 8oz. cup) with most of the calories coming from protein and fat rather than carbohydrates. Supposed to make them less at risk for obesity, yet, Kohdi has gained weight since being on this food. Weird. They both have snow nose this year too, never had it before, not sure if that is food related though, I'm told it's not but it's pretty coincidental.

Don't know about the tartar Amy, is there something digestible you can give Z'ev instead of raw bones?

I bought a box of Vet IQ minties  (a greenies copy).  It has calcium carbonate as sort of a pumice to help scrub the teeth.  I can also start with more bones now...it's getting warmer and kitty can be outside so Z'ev can be in the garage crate more often.  Also, I'm thinkIng of giving all the dogs their bone on a tether outside shop I can retrieve the remains and toss it.  Otherwise, Ami buries them, goes back and gets it a day or two layer, leaves it where I don't know about, Z'ev find it, Ami takes exception...

I just hate to stop Ami's bone stashing.  He really enjoyed it, sometimes takes a half hour or more to find the right spot...I watch him trotting around, bones in mouth, checking out just the right spot.
