Dog Shoe Fitment Empty
PostSubject: Dog Shoe Fitment   Dog Shoe Fitment EmptyWed Feb 03, 2021 12:16 pm

So I picked up shoes for the dogs for the trip in july to AZ because some of the trails are pavement trails and it will be too hot. They came in yesterday and we tried them on. Video for a giggle with just the front two on (not sure about setting up previews from OneDrive instead of youtube). They have some getting used to which is why I ordered them so far in advance of the trip. Kenzi is picking up walking in them better than kye. He is a bit like watching a sloth creep around the house in them once all 4 are on. But I'm struggling to tell if they actually are fitting correctly. Kye's seem like they are on right. I stuff my finger down in the back of them to make sure his paw pad is sitting on the sole portion and it seems to be, but kenzi I can't seem to do that with to tell if her paw is fully down in the shoe. Kenzi's nails are longer than Kye's. I did figure nail length into when I measured them for shoes but dog shoes aren't quite like people shoes where you press around the toes and see where their toes fall. I hate to just walk them until something rubs enough I can see issue spots but not sure another way to really tell proper fitment. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Video was slow to load - loaded first several seconds, played it, loaded more, played that ... but still viewable.

Kenzi has a vet appointment tomorrow so I may take the shoes with me and see if any of them can tell if they are going on right and fitting correctly. It's hilarious to watch them try to get around in the shoes. Kye is so confused. Kenzi would rather her feet not touch the ground in them so she zips around really fast. Watching her try to jump up onto the couch without letting her feet touch was a good laugh. At her age though I would feel really bad if she got hurt by, or because of, the shoes. The shoes are really grippy though and could be really nice for them on the slick floors of our house. Kenzi always struffles for traction.

Where i get my dog food, they sell several types and the have someone there that does fittings by appointment. The biggest issue is they have 2 cats that live in the pet store and squirt kills cats.

So they have some that look like socks, the ones that are like doggie sneakers, and ones that are like doggy hiking boots. Which did you go for. When i took squirt to creede last month i ended up putting socks on her and then wrapping them with duct tape. She was kinda upset about it and then a dog walked by and she forgot she was wearing them.

I've looked at the grippy socks for wearing in the house. They are pretty cheap. I got the boot type though since I am mostly using them to deter the heat of the pavement we will be dealing with. I have musher's secret but it isn't going to hold up to AZ pavement heat. The variety of shoes out there for dogs is interesting any you really have to pay attention not to get a snow shoe and then trying to use it in the summer because the shoes designed for snow traction don't breathe and you can overheat your dog in summer by putting them on. While summer shoes will get wet inside in winter but will be grippy on snow.

Most of the time she doesnt need shoes. Summer tbere were a few days that i had to pick her up to cross roads and the parking areas but for the most part she always finds water to play in and shoes and water become drowning risk. Im just paranoid about her getting sick from licking deicer off her feet. The other day in pagosa i just carried her to where it was safe rather then let her cross the parking lot and sidewalk.

I measured their feet. Kenzi gets a bit jelly like when I do stuff to her so I think they are the right size, I may or may not be getting her foot fully in the shoe though since she goes dead foot on me. If she would stiffen it would make shoving her foot in much easier. She's at the vet today and probably a good thing she didn't have shoes on. She would have dragged the vet completely off. She might be weak in the hind end but adrenaline still gives her some fairly mighty strength.
