Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

As I discussed earlier in another threat titled "Reverse Sneezing,"  Bodhi had two scary incidents a month apart of serious bloody noses that would not stop.
Blood pooled under him during the last one.
After several frantic trips to our vet and the animal ER, our vet did a needle biopsy after she thought Bodhi's lymph nodes were swollen.
She called us yesterday to tell us that he has mast cell cancer in his nose that has metastasized.

We won't be able to see an oncologist for two weeks.
The vet has assured us that it is not curable, but palliative relief may be possible to buy time.

Right now he is on prednisone, Benadryl and pepcid.
He started eating again after a four day stop and exercises enthusiastically.
But at night, he is having accidents, something that is very unusual for him.

I know that I have a terrible choice coming straight at me.

Next week he will be 12 years old.

Oh Michael, my heart bleeds for you.  There's nothing to say but I'm sorry that "things" happen.

I'm pretty much right there with ya, Sasha is about 13 and the last year has been one steady decline.  In the morning it's "How much longer do we go?" and in the afternoon it's "So you still got some of that old spunk left, eh?"
I'm going to have to replace the kitchen floor eventually since she can't make it through the night, but that's okay.

You have my prayers and sympathy ...

You know how i feel, i love that boy so much and this crushes me. Keep him stable and happy for as long as you can and enjoy every moment with him.
I hope the Vets can help you and him be more comfortable till its time.
Take walks in the woods while you can.
HUGS

So sorry this is happening to you both. Cancer is rough. We did pain management for a few months when my 9 yr old had bone cancer, which was super aggressive. You can get some good time with meds. Not sure how aggressive the kind you are dealing with is but know some who have managed to get up to a year more on pain management and diet change with some of the medium aggression cancers.

Thank you all for your kind and sympathetic words.

Bodhi has been better as the week went on and he became used to the drugs.

The tragedy of dogs is that their lives are so short.

We started chemo pills on Wednesday. His energy seems down and he's sleeping a lot. This is a boy who has always been crazy about food. He's eating, but not enthusiastically. He's drinking water enormously. Paws crossed!
