Neutering recovery day 4.. worried Empty
PostSubject: Neutering recovery day 4.. worried   Neutering recovery day 4.. worried EmptyTue Feb 21, 2023 10:14 am

My husky was neutered 4 days ago, he is eating and drinking fine but won’t move around at all, a few steps then he circles back to the ground, whimpers and tries to get at the wound (unable to with inflatable cone), everything he does even to go to the toilet he is moving like this only a few steps then dropping and seeming in pain. Wound seems to be healing ok, is it normal for him to be acting like this not moving at all on day 4? He is getting once daily pain meds as prescribed by vet. Thank you 🙏🏻

Two reactions here:
1) What's the pain med and strength your vet has him on? It's possible he's so drugged that any movement is 'confusing'. It's just 'safer' for him to stay in one place.
2) It's possible that the neutering has a problem. At 4 days most of my dogs were needing restraints 'cause they wanted to be doing something.

I'd be having a talk with my vet ....

Ditto Al - I'd get a vet check.

Thank you. He’s on metacam from the vet. It seems to settle him and allows him peaceful rest and sleep but it makes no difference to him trying to walk about. I think he’s also scared now of moving about too much, but certainly no question about him hurting judging by his actions

Time for a vet visit.  At 4-5 days after you should be having to restrain him from doing things he shouldn't yet.

ETA: have you checked the stitches. By now they should be healing nicely, maybe a bit pink but definitely not red. Is it possible that the stitches are pulling and causing him pain? Red, btw, at this stage would indicate an infection ... something you'd definitely want the vet to look at.
