Hey everyone!
My name is Meredith, I live in Milton, FL, and my fiance Aaron and I just became proud owners of a beautiful 10 week old girl that we named Ghost. Aaron and I both grew up with dogs in the family, but we have never owned a Husky. I have always wanted a Husky, but up until recently my job prevented me from owning any kind of dog, let alone a Husky. I had heard that they could be challenging so I did a ton of homework (we have quite the stack of Husky books now, thank you Amazon.com!), but every day this week has been a new challenge.

Ghost is the sweetest thing, and loves to cuddle! She is also incredibly intelligent. She came to us thankfully crate trained from the breeder, but not housebroken outside of that. Tuesday we had LOTS of accidents, Wednesday we had a few, and by Thursday we had none at all. In the span of 4 days, she has learned "outside", "inside", "come", and "sit", and we are now working on "leave it". We've got 2 cats and a Cocker Spaniel in the house as well, and they don't quite want to play the way Ghost does, so we say "leave it" and today she's finally starting to listen. The big challenge for us is getting her to pay attention, but if we are able to get that attention she does exactly what she's told.

We are both looking forward to the joys that come from having a Husky, and I know it's going to be quite the experience watching her grow up!

Welcome Meredith and congrats on your new pup! Ghost is quite the little cutie. Oh I know what you mean, no amount of research can really prepare you for your first sibe! Lol It's a crazy, fun learning curve and rollercoaster of adventure with these dogs! Enjoy it!

Thanks Jennifer! Yeah, from everything I've read it's going to be interesting. It's been a wild week so far, but worth every minute. The big challenge so far, which I've come to understand will probably be a lifelong challenge, is getting her attention. She's incredibly smart, and if you can get her attention she knows "come" and "sit". Sometimes she'll decide that she really doesn't want to go outside either, and we will wind up with an accident in the house after she bolts from us. She's super sweet though, and has figured out over the last couple days that the couch is a pretty awesome place to chill out. After spending most of the weekend reading threads (nothing like being sick on a holiday weekend), I'm really glad I found this forum, as I've learned far more than from any of the books I bought.

On the one hand, you become a fierce defender of the ways in which your little one is perfectly ordinary — all the things he or she can do that are just like what everybody else does. And yet, you never lose sight of how absolutely extraordinary that very ordinariness is, how difficult, remarkable and rewarding that fight to be 'just like everybody else' has been."  -Gwen Cooper, "Homer's Odyssey"
