Hi everyone,

I'm new here and have a question. I own two huskies, Dakota(3yrs.) and Montana(7 mo.).

When it's time to go out to potty, Montana will go pee at the first sign of the leash! Right on my floor, lol. I can't for the life of me figure out why she does this. I take her out frequently, like every 2 to 3 hrs. She's still has trouble holding it longer than that. Any ideas? Could it be excitement... or maybe a UTI?
Thanks!

You know, huskies are known for having certain genetic incontinence issues...I would ask your vet.

Excitement peeing is rather common with young dogs the urinary area muscles haven't fully developed yet, they will. More common with males though.
Mylo, when he was a youngster would do the same thing , scolded, or even if he was startled by something.

Kinda like the old saying of, "I was so scared I thought I'd p*ss my pants."

If she's only doing it when she sees the leash then it's most likely excitement peeing. We had a couple dogs who would excitement/submissive pee. Try walking around with the leash in your hand or around your neck. Pretty much get her immune to seeing it so when she does see it she'll learn that the leash does not exactly mean going outside.

My Willow is an excitement pee're (sp?) She is getting better and better with age. She now only does it when someone comes over cause she is spactic with new people. If I know someone is headed this way, I take her out to pee real quick before they get here. I'm working on her to be calm with new poeple and I think she will stop then. I agree with Ashley, if you desensitize her to the leash, she will probably stop it all together.

You know I would have never thought of that, a simple cure for a simple problem. weird problem...... 85993

Some times I guess we put to much effort into things that could be solved rather easily. I wish I had thought of that when Mylo was a pup.

That's a good idea also. The key is to NEVER punish her or get angry when she does it, just ignore her and clean it up.
