Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

"All over Craigslist, you see postings telling you not to buy from "Backyard Breeders"
These postings are created by pet stores and rescue groups to scare you away from what may be your best option
They tell you that backyard breeders don't care about their dogs and that you don't know what you are getting
In reality, a backyard breeder is a pet owner who decided to make a little money from their pet
Since you can only have a maximum of 4 dogs in Miami Dade, you know they don't have (or shouldn't have) a large number of dogs
Since they are people's pets, the dogs usually have a normal pet life, getting lots of love and running in the yard
If you buy a dog from a backyard breeder, you can usually see both parents (not possible in a pet store or shelter)
Buying a puppy from a backyard breeder makes sure the parents are well cared for as much of the money is put back into the care of the dogs
Search the web for photos & videos of puppy mills... most puppies in a pet store come from mills because they are cheaper
Cheaper, that is, for the pet store, not for the consumer. A puppy that is $700 in a pet store can often be bought from a breeder for $400

This is the truth about Backyard Breeders... they breed their purebred pet dogs in their own back yard

When you see an advertisement for a puppy for sale, ask if the parents are there to be seen, make sure you're not calling a pet store

See puppies for sale on theflyer.com, kijiji.com, hoobly.com these are free sites, so you will be most likely to find puppies from people rather than mills "

I don't check CL anymore, I can't handle it.
That post makes no sense as puppy stores never say don't buy from BYB, responsible pet lovers do, they said to buy from RESPONSIBLE breeders who breeds for all the right reasons and take all the proper steps.. a BYB litter can be raised just as poorly as a mill.
And puppy store dogs are usually $1-2K, not $700.. and $400 doesn't even cover all the essentials. I think 600-800 for a companion animal is acceptable for what care should be given, and then obviously more for a show quality dog with full rights.

And I don't know how they think "In reality, a backyard breeder is a pet owner who decided to make a little money from their pet" sounds very appealing.
