| After using the search function I wasn't able to locate any info on self feeders, those gravity fed feeders for dry kibble. Anyone using these and if so does the dog gorge itself? We're using a self waterer with a 3 gallon resevoir and it came with a feeder too but I'm not sure I want to use it. |

| Won't get fat on a self water device but if your Husky is like my Biko you'll have one obese dog in a short period of time.
Kibble feeders in my opinion are horrid devices. |

| I guess it depends on the dog but mine would totally gorge themselves. I used one a long time ago for one of my pet dogs and it didn't work. The dog would just sit there and eat. lol |

| Never have used one for a dog before. We used to use one for the cats, until Dusty gained weight and now both Tabby and Dusty are meal fed so we can regulate how much they get. I don't use a water feeder either, between Kale slobber and Dusty drool, It would be the slimmest thing ever! haha I clean out the water bowl about 3 times a day. |

| Mine would be rolling down the street on their walks if we had a self feeder! We do have the one for the water though. I have to clean it out once a day. Still better than refilling their two water bowl a million times! They still have a normal water bowl, but they both come to the self waterer all the time |

| Every dog I've EVER known that was free fed period was overweight. I wouldn't free feed or use a gravity feeder for two main reasons.
First, with a free feeding you can't monitor exactly how much the dog is eating. This can lead to obesity and also can make it harder to notice when a dog is sick and either slows or stops eating.
Second, when kibble sits out exposed to the air and humidity it loses it's nutritional value. There's a very good reason for keeping their food in an air tight, sealed container! Worse than free feeding by filling the bowl once a day is leaving large quantities of food exposed in a gravity feeder.
My sibe won't gorge himself on food when it's left out available at all times. However he will eat more when food is freely left out and that will result in weight gain. My two chihuahuas were both free fed before we adopted them and they were both very obese. _________________ ~~Val~~

| Hello Everyone I just found your site and its great. I have the opposite problem with my Husky. I have food in her bowl all the time and she won't eat it unless she is really hungry. I have those purple bottles that they need to play with to get treats out and I have to put her food into that for her to eat it. Once empty she comes over to me and smacks me in the leg with it until I refill. She is very weird that way. But when she goes to grandmas house she will empty their food bowl and its the same exact food I have at home. So for a feeder the food would go stale at my house. They are definately a stubborn breed, if my husky (Liberty Bell, Libby) does not see a purpose in it she won't do it. |

| Oh my god, if I left the bag of Ziwipeak open at my house the dogs would eat it all in 2 minutes. My does would be rolley polley huskies rolling down the sidewalk as well! |

| Jennifer, No there's no reason I need to use the self feeder, I'm home with her 14 hours a day. It was just a part of the set I bought to get the 3 gallon waterer, which is awesome. I wanted some input as to whether or not they are a valid method of feeding. Sounds like they're not that good. Oh well, I'll find some other use for the feeder. Maybe it can hold nails or something in my shop.
Oh and we switched to Totw today (slowly mixing it into her old food) and Anushka sat there at her bowl picking out the Totw and eating that and ignoring the old food. Guess she likes it. |
