PostSubject: Overstepping Boundaries?   Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:02 pm

I have not seen the husky pup from down the street in almost 2 weeks, her chain is still on the deck when I walk by, but have not seen her. She has ran away before so I'm concerned.
Ok, my question is... Would I be overstepping if I stopped by and asked about her? I hope they didn't get rid of her, I would have taken her.
She has always been there when we go on walks and nothing lately.
It was really nice last weekend and she wasn't around.
I just don't want to be rude. I have not seen any posters up anywhere. Just concerned.
Any help please.

thats a tough one.... if you happen to be walking with libby and they are outside maybe it would not seem odd to ask but i don't think i would walk to the door and knock and ask... i hope there husky is ok where ever it is.

Like the others say, if someone is outside when you pass by I think it is ok, but the other way would be a bit offennsive.

I went for a very wet and cold walk last night hoping to see one of them. I was coming down the road and he was outside but as soon as I got close he went inside, we came back around and I could see him again and then he went inside again. UGH. I talked to my neighbor this morning and he said the thought he had seen her but he can't remember when and it could have beed 2 weeks ago. I know him and his wife always ask if I've seen the dog. I will just keep praying I see her and she is ok.
I have a friend that mentioned just stopping there and saying I saw a dog that looked like her and wanted to make sure she was ok, but I can't do that incase she did run away again, that just gives them false hope. She did come back after 9 days last time. I'm hoping maybe they had her fixed and she has just been inside. I will keep you all posted.

Honestly? If it were me, I'd probably just knock on the door and act concerned. Say, "I haven't seen your dog around. Is she okay? I wanted to offer my help searching for her if she had escaped again."

Isn't that the neighborly thing to do? Offer to help if the dog got loose? I don't see how that is bad. Worst that could happen is they say "She's here. Mind your own business." But I honestly don't see why they would be offended on a neighbor checking in on them?

I would go up and ask but that's just me. People think i'm nuts with 5 Huskies anyway so i'm used to people looking at me weirdly or thinking there's something wrong with me Laughing

I know how you feel. There is a husky down the road, that stays tied to a tree. I want so bad to ask if I can take it with me when we go walking and to the park but I feel that it's none of my concerned . I. Wish all husky owners were alike:(

I might just say what the hell and stop and ask tonight on our walk. I worry because her chain is still there but have not seen her. It's true what are they going to say mind your own business, she fine. At least it will ease my mind. She has gotten lose so many times this summer and if I'm driving or walking by with Libby I always stop and she runs right over because of the dog. The lady is always wasted when I see her, so I don't even think she knows that she leaves the door open. I never see anyone pay with her ans feel bad. She is really sweet and just wants to play. They never walk her and she has a very short leash. Why get a dog then?

Because they are pretty, that's why. Neo got loose from me a few days ago. I accordingly hooked the leash to his tags...eek. I run around the neighborhood crying looking for him. I heard the lab barking and walked back home and he was laying in the yard. Two men where stopped with thier car door open. If it hadn't been for my neighbors home nurse, they would have tried to get him. They have no idea about the breed. They are pretty so it makes people want to get one. You should have to take a test or something to legally own a husky imo

Are you sure they wanted to take him? If I were driving and saw a loose dog, I might do the same thing because a lot of dogs like to jump in cars. Then I can keep the dog contained and drive around the neighborhood looking for a frantic owner or check the dog for tags. If I couldn't find anyone, I'd take the dog home and put up signs. Smile

The one time all of my dogs got out (just 3 at that time Wink ) I jumped in the truck and drove down the street opened up the back door and said "Hey, dog park!" and they got in that truck so fast... LOL! There have been multiple times where i've been able to just open the front door and get a dog that way.

But I understand your concern, if I saw someone trying to do that to my dog that would be my first reaction.

So people just go into your yard, steal your dog, and then want $ from them? That's insane!

I know, I would be devastated. Our unemployment rate is high around here and I guess instead of getting a job, lets just steal.

we have been hearing more of those stories here in CO as well. another reason i don't leave our dogs in the yard with no one home. even if its a 10 min run to the store.

No I never leave her outside unattended, She would never tolerate it either. She would bark and howl if I would ever leave and she was outside. I've run inside but I can see her at all times.

Kidnapping dogs and then demanding money for theirs return, people are really full of shit nowadays.

maybe it is different were you live, but here I would not knock on the door and ask, you only have to say hello to people to earn some mean muggin around here.
