My husky chewed up a small amount of carpet when she was 2 to 3 months old. She hasnt chewed any furniture since i caught her right when her teeth touched the coffie table leg months ago and i did a negative marker. " simple fix " But today i told her we couldnt go to the dog park so I could finish some tile work in the house. I drive 70 miles " thats both ways" a day just to take her to a really great dog park with lots of huskies. Anyways 20 minutes later after our small chat i hear a tearing sound from across the house. She tore up the carpet in our living room by the entry way!!! I walked over there and she didnt even bother to get up, just looked at me with that husky grin. Guess what? Ill go ahead and make some time for the park today. I do have to sleep tonight and i have a feeling she knows that as well!!! Coolest and most loving pet i have ever had.

Adam,
they have a way of knowing when they are told they can't do/go somewhere, we always pay for it! hope the carpet is not to bad and you can fix it.

Anubis destroyed the mattress my bed when he was a teenager. Sleeping directly on the plumes for days wasn´t funny.

Be careful if you're using real wood. Husky nails on hardwood floors do damage quick. We have some of that laminate flooring, and they haven't left a mark.

we have the laminate wood in the upstairs and it still looks great! i have heard the real wood does get marked easily unless you go with a harder wood

Another vote for laminate. We have real wood floors at our house and in our vacation house as well. The dogs' nails have not done any damage in 1+ yrs but if I had a choice I'd prefer laminate so I wouldn't worry as much.

Our last house had beautiful original wood floors, and the dogs nails never damaged it. I really miss our pretty floors! Sad

Can your dogs walk okay on the laminate? We would like to put laminate down to replace some very old carpet, but since Ghost slips and slides on the lino in the kitchen we're not sure if he would find it hard to walk on. At the vets, which has a shinier lino, he really has trouble walking.

My sibe slides around more on wood laminate (at my dad's house) than he does on real wood at our house and our vacation house. But really he doesn't have trouble walking or trotting on wood or laminate floors...but he also doesn't have trouble on linoleum either.

That is the reason why I hate laminate, looks great holds up well, but is slick as shit for dogs to walk on.

When Mylo got older we had to put down area rugs so he could walk from the dining room to the TV room to be with us. Biko is only a bit over 2 yrs old and has a habit of slipping way to often. If it wasn't for the time and effort I put into installing it, I'd replace it with some sort of non slip/skid surface. Adobo is never in a hurry so very seldom has a problem with laminate.

Side note it wasn't because of long nails on them as they barely have any because of the extensive walking we do daily.

We have hardwood floor as well (original to the house that was built in 1939), the wood is not damaged one bit but the finish gets scuffed. Every 3 months my dad refinishes the living room and the dining room.

I think for this reason we'll have to stick to carpet. Thank goodness for the carpet cleaner!

we have tile downstairs and unless Jack is in a full sprint they walk fine, they are also ok on the laminate but its just in the bed room and we have a large area rug there as the walking and nails clicking in the middle of the night was driving me crazy!

I had a foster German Shepherd at my old house that had hard wood floors and it was great for her...she she got too warn she laid on the floor..then back to her lazy boy recliner (an old one my parents were throwing out due to broken leg- Molly loved it). At the new place we have laminate or whatever "fake wood" floor put in and Cali walks on it, but will NOT lay on it directly, she needs her blanky. One day I was cleaning her blanket for the floor while we were walking and it was still going in the dryer after our hour long walk and she did laps around the house till it was done. She didn't stop for anything, once the dryer went off she ran down to it. Got the blanket out, let it cool a little, and within 1 minute of putting it down she laid down. She will not play with chew toys on the wood flooring, she goes down to the carpeted room for that.

We have tile and carpet, Appa does fine on the tile, has only slipped a handful of times when he sprints down the stairs and tries to 90° turn on the tile. He laid on the tile all summer long. Now we find him on his bed much more frequently.

We keep his nails short enough they don't click as he walks, that might drive me bonkers if they did all day.

If you think that would drive you nuts, imagine the million extra clicks from tiny Chihuahua feet who have to take like 10 times the number of steps in the same distance. Faith drives me nuts! She punished me! 1625187496
