PostSubject: Strange puppy behaviour towards play buddy   Strange puppy behaviour towards play buddy EmptyMon Mar 12, 2012 1:21 am

Hi All,

Im having a little trouble understanding my puppy's behaviour that she displayed yesterday towards one of her play buddies..

Echo is nearly 4 months old and a couple of weeks ago I took her over to a neighbour's house who also has a husky, that is exactly the same age. The other pup is a boy and when they first met it was at their place. Echo is very outgoing and she approached Max straight away and started sniffing him. Max looked quite scared and intimidated and even wet himself, but after a couple of minutes, the two dogs were playing and seemed like they were having plenty of fun.

I think at one point Echo got tired as she climbed on a chair and just wanted to stay there. However Max kept tryng to get her and kept jumping on her. We left soon after that and went back home.

We hadn't seen Max for a couple of weeks as he got his eye injured and has been recovering, but yesterday on our way back to the shop, we saw Max and his owner sitting on a bench just outside the entracnce to the shopping centre.

Max was quiet as usual and just sat there not making any noises, while Echo reacted in a way I had never seen her react before! Like I said before she is very outgoing and always approaches other dogs and gives them a good sniff, but yesterday she went crazy when she saw him. She started barking, growling and jumping around trying to get to him. I didnt let her get close enough so they could touch, due to Max's injury, but the behaviour she displayed put me off a little. I tried to calm her down, but she just wouldnt listen so we just had to get up and leave. The whole meetng lasted less than a minute and Echo was being extremely vocal.

She's always been curous towards other dogs but never vocal, and has always been really friendly with all her other buddies at puppy school. She would be excited at first but then would just quietly sit next to me while class was on.

Im not too sure what caused her to react like that and would love some comments and feedback Smile

My first thought was that she didnt like Max and was trying to get payback for when he was annoying her while they were playing. My partner also thought that it might be his fault as when they play, they bark and growl at each other and then chase around the house. So, he thought it was because of that, but when they play at home she is nothing like she was when she saw Max.

What should I do if something like this happens again? I dont want her to react like that when she gets big as it'll be lot harder to hold her back..

Im looking forward to reading your comments and sugeestions! Smile

From what I can make of it, I just think Echo was excited to see Max... Luka doesn't get on with some dogs as well as he does with others - there are 2 or 3 dogs in the park that he just loves and they can play for hours! As soon as he sees them, nothing else matters, he just wants to get to them - they react the same way towards him. They do calm down, eventually Very Happy

I would have to agree based solely on what you've described. That wouldn't alarm me at all, sounds completely normal to me.

Nike does this all the time , my roomate has a 2 yo lab. She like jukes back and forth like a runningback while just howling and making all sorts of noises. She also lays on her back looks at the lab and just howls at her

Kale does this EVERY time he see my boyfriend, he loves my boyfriend and when he see him there is no controlling him. He jumps up on his hind legs-ears flat, woos, barks, pulls, licks the air, rolls around on the ground, etc. His tongue flies everywhere; my bf usually needs to take a shower after coming over because of Kale spit...
