I need some ideas. Niko came to us with some really great behaviors (and some not so great behaviors that are adressed in other threads) that I need to modify just a little. He walks AMAZINGLY well on a leash. I have no problems letting my 4yo take Niko out to walk around the yard. He doesn't pull, doesn't stop to sniff everything, and stays right beside the leash-holder.

On Friday I got a harness (thanks Claudia!) so I can start bikejoring and he completely does not understand that he's supposed to be IN FRONT of me/the bike, and that it's OK to pull. Our lab on the other hand, pulls a lot on-leash unless we use a prong harness, and then he's great. Should I get a second harness and put the lab in lead and hope Niko learns from him? I'm not crazy about running our lab a ton though, since he's kind of an old man (9 years old) and his hips give him a little bit of trouble every now and then, and Niko is quite a bit faster than he is.

Any suggestions as to how I can 'fix' this problem? Bonus points if it's something I can do on my own since I only have time during the day/during nap time to work on this stuff!

Have a person run in front of Niko.
He'll chase.
Set a voice command like "hike."

Then after a few times,, try it without the person, but with the voice command.

I don't have anyone home during the day generally for him to chase other than the kids, and we've been working on getting him to NOT chase them.....especially in the house since when they decide to run laps through the living/dining room and our bedroom/laundry room Niko likes to join in and invariably tackles one of them from behind.

Last night I hooked our lab up to him with a neckline and it went quite well! Grant (the lab) was happy to lead the way, and kept the pace up since Niko likes to go at a slow trot. Now to work on those directional commands more.....they both wanted to run in the middle of the road!!!

Not something you can do on your own unfortunatly, but you could try having someone else bike in front of you guys. Mine always run faster when there is someone in front of them.
