Baylee, the dog Im babysitting was in Axels crate and I was by the crate and bent down to pick up my kids toy and her muzzle fit perfectly thru the wires and she chomped down onto the SENSITIVE skin right under your arm above your elbow and wouldnt let go! I had to grab the fireplace broom and push it thru the crate and smack her a lil to get her to let go, she puncuted the skin and everything. I dont know if I need to get some sort of shot or something, I STILL havent been able to get ahold of her owner for over a week now, he was supposed to bring her more food and hasnt, but told me not to give her raw only kibble, which I dont buy because roxy n axel eat raw, omg then my phone was stolen last night and I dont know his number and nobody has replied to the craigslist ads I posted looking for him. What they hell do I do now, I keep trying to remind myself I am an animal lover but this dog is walking on my last nerves! Ive had to rent carpet cleaners FOUR times since she has been here because she refuses to potty outside, only the kids bedroom carpets for her, even when I put the gate up she jumps it, I leash her and she chewed thru 3 of axel and roxys leashes, I finally have just been keeping her crated but its not fair to her but she is becoming more and more aggresive and I dont know why?!

Wait- you are babysitting a dog for someone you met on craigslist?

I'm confused.

If she is up-to-date on all her shots, you shouldn't need to get a shot or anything, especially if you are up-to-date on your tetanus.

How often is she being let out to go potty? Usually the solution is not to give her an opportunity to fail and let her out to potty more often.

He was an old friend from highschool that found me thru facebook and saw I had a husky so decided to ask me for a favor, which I can never say no to people.

She doesnt have ANY shots, he was supposed to pick her up on the 1st to take her for them and to be microchipped but never came, and I got a tetanus 3 years ago so I think Im still good.

As for the potty I take her out before I take out roxy which is every 45 minutes to an hour, Roxy is only about 13 weeks old so she goes alot, but I tried taking baylee out every 30min, no go, tried every 15 still nothing, but literally as soon as I bring her in she goes on the floor, I walk her around for 30-45 minutes and she just sniffs around but nothing else. I tried taking her and the other dogs together so she would see them go and pick up from seeing them but still no luck Sad

This has abandonment written all over it Sad Do you have a backup plan?

I would start using the tether method on her. Tie her/leash her to your belt. Never let her out of your sight. At this point, it seems she has been taught that going in the house is okay. You need to catch her in the act so that you can teach her it's bad. When she starts to go, IMMEDIATELY give a loud and firm, "NO!" and drag bring her outside (mid-stream if you have to). Get her to go outside and freaking throw a party with the praise.

Thats how it feels, but I just dont know because we both signed a contract when he brought he saying id watch her and she was in good health upon coming here n all, I shall try the tether method but I do catch her in the act and i tell her no and take her to finish outside, she wont, but when I ring her back in she finishes, honestly she has never gone outside since she has been here.

Then you're bringing her in too soon. You need to be more stubborn than she is.

Contract means nothing if you can't find him.

Reconsider my suggestion from this morning. To me its obvious this person doesn't want the dog any more, give em 24 hours or off to the pound. The contract was void when he quit supplying food.

It sounds like abandonment to me as well. And if she bit you and wouldn't let go I think you need to focus on you and your family's safety over the contract.

And cant you find him on facebook if he found you? I would be posting on all is friends profiles too.

I have been messeging him on FB but no luck, its been over a week now with no contact from him, but yea thats why ive been crating her, I try so many things with her hoping she will learn but its just getting tiring especially because she is not my dog, I have my money planned out for everything, and now I am having to dip into my savings just to buy her food too now. I am going to give him tonight, if he does not reply to me tonight I am going in the morning to the police station and ask them if I can safley (legally) do soemthing, because it really is getting to be too much. Right now roxy walked by the crate minding her own buisness and baylee tried chewing through the wires to attack her! I dont get it though when she first got here she was sweet.

Do ya'll think perhaps her behavious is because she misses her owner and her real home??

I say your current pets' safety and well being comes first. Can't save them all and some shouldn't be saved at all. I've been bitten by a dog once... ONCE. The cause of this type of behavior is irrelevant. That dog doesn't belong there.

Do you know where said "owner" lives? Sounds like a face to face is in order.

I'm with Eddy and Len. I'm an animal lover, but I am not going to have my dogs or kids (I'm assuming kids was as in human children, not as in your dog- could be wrong) be put at risk by an outsider and biting me is 100% something I will not tolerate, and if I had a child there'd be no way in hell a dog that bit me like that is going to remain in my care. The owner has not contacted you and you are at a loss, and you can't subject your family to this. It's sad but it's realistically what has to be done. Either contact a rescue or hand over to a shelter, and remember you do have to disclose that she is aggressive, even though it does not put odds in her favor. Though I NEVER will support abandonment, I'm inclined to believe her behavior maybe has to do with why he fell off the face of the earth.. people are shitty like that.

My only suggestions as a last resort of contact is get a print out of your call/text records from your phone company.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I do think there is something that needs to be addressed. Lately we've had an influx in post count-- which, while I normally am all for, it's also been detracting from the seriousness and maturity of this forum.

We are a friendly and informative place. We are here to help people and provide support. I'm getting a little tired of two things. 1) Posts where people are simply talking out of their ass and don't actually know a helpful solution to the problem. This contributes to misinformation and detracts from the seriousness of what we hope to provide here. In fact, many times it feels like the forum is being used as a soapbox for people who just like to hear themselves talk.

And 2) the respect level for Admin and Mods. This second point REALLY upsets me because it's Rule #3 of this forum. Failure to adhere to the rules results in warnings. 3 warnings result in a ban. I don't have this rule because I like to think I know it all. I have it because it creates a place where order can be maintained. When I have members talking back to staff members, continuing to perpetuate drama when blatantly asked to stop, or not seriously taking 30 seconds to THINK about what they are posting and contributing to our community, I get angry. Why? Because this isn't fucking high school anymore. We are adults and if you can't act like one, you have no business being here.

SO-- that being said. Let's move forward as friends and adults. Let's only post when we have something PRODUCTIVE to say (note that doesn't say positive-- we can still and will always disagree, but we should only be doing so when that helps to get to our common goal of helping our animals). Let's not sass each other just for the sake of being a dick-- and this goes to staff too (including myself). Because as we just saw, sassing someone doesn't actually get the point across.

I don't know about you all-- but I left high school and haven't looked back. I'm not going to start now.

I agree the safety for you and your pack is foremost. However, I don't think given what you described it would be fair to label the dog as aggressive. I've seen a lot of good dogs act that way when confined / crated when they are not used to it, especially when other dogs are not similarly confined. Good luck.

Unless I have my wires crossed, most states consider a dog biting you to be automatic grounds for euthanasia, so I think it's safe to say that having his dog bite you, and not warning you that it is a possibility, pretty much nullifies any obligation you had to keep watch over his dog.

Now, that said, it's not unheard of for dogs to "go in the house" in these situations. With A) her owner being gone, and B) a new place, sometimes you have to re-house train a dog to a new environment. There's a new authority figure and they might not make the connection that the expectations are the same, which carries over to the property itself. If she was sweet when she got there, it's very likely her behaviors are largely due to anxiety, which crating her likely made far worse.

There is a trainer who frequents my local dog park and one of the things she commonly cautions owners to do is, upon their initial visit, let the dog off the leash once they've gotten over their initial energy. This releases them after they've lost their puppy-like "OMGDOGSEVERYWHERE" mentality, but before they've started to grow anxious and, in many cases, aggressive. How do you feel when you watch someone do something you'd like to be doing? Especially with claustrophobic dogs like huskies, keeping them on a restraint is bad enough, but for them to see that nobody else is restrained, that's just positively infuriating, and it typically leads to increased aggression, not decreased. I'm not saying to let her continue destroying your carpet, of course, just that she may not actually be aggressive, just...typical and reactive.

How does she do with you and your dogs when she's not in the crate?

I don't know if this has been asked, I've looked but didn't see it.

How long did the contract say that you would watch his dog for? I would say that if you have a time limit, and it's succeeded past that, then it's abandoned, and you no longer have an obligation to care of her. I'm just curious, because that could be something to take into the equation of deciding what to do with her.

I would contact your cellphone company for a copy of the texts. At the very least you can get your call logs. If you have an online account you use to pay your cellphone bill (depending on the company) you can get your call logs and text logs right there, although it might be just the numbers not the text content. But still, between that and the date of your "I'm dogsitting" post on here you should be able to pinpoint his number.

And good luck, this sounds awful and stressful. I don't even know what I'd do.

If you have a smartphone, there's an app for a one-time $6.99 fee called "Email My Conversation." I have so many clients texting me for real estate now that I purchased it for documentation purposes. It works great and will email you any text conversation in a documented form that WILL stand up in court.

From what I've understood, Christina still has a week or two to watch the dog.... However the contract itself has already been void considering he hasn't kept up his end of it at all.

No communication, No food.... This guy just sounds like an overall winner to me.

Look, I don't know him... Maybe he's in distress, maybe something is preventing him from doing those things, maybe he's a good guy. I don't know how important he is to you Chris, I know you've just reconnected.

But something isn't right in Denmark, and you know that..... Put yourself in his place. Ask yourself how often you'd call if you had to leave Axel with him? If you would pick up the phone for the person minding him? If you would drop everything your doing when you found out Axel bit him????

You've got to protect your family, dogs included, and yourself first. There's no contract in the world that is worth putting those things in jeopardy.

I would either spend as much time I could retraining this pup starting this second.... Or explain the problem and the bite to my local rescue and inform them I didn't have a Healthy home for the dog and the owner was MIA.

Keeping the pup at this point... Just seems to be doing more harm then good to the both of you. I would think about re homing in someway shape or form in your shoes....

Oh and as a final note... If any of our pets EVER hurt Kelly in a non playful matter, Latching on like that, that pet would be out of my house as soon as I could do so.

just my two pennies.....

~Chris~
